Im 21 weeks pregnant and still active with my horses, midwife said aslong as i dont go doing too much, oops didnt tell her about show lol. Anyway have developed Shingles and my first question was that will it harm the baby, thankfully no.

Checked and everyone at the yard has already had chickenpox so cant get it. However can the horses get anything? Gypsy is pregnant and there is the wee foalies aswell. Okay maybe im taking the over protective mummy too far but wouldnt want to pass anything on to them.

Having had shingles twice ou need to be very careful about doing too much!

The first time I had it I rested for a couple of days- got bored- went back to work and riding etc then ended up with post viral fatigue and felt really rubbish for three months!

My advice, rest as much as you can for at least a fortnight, take zinc tablets (not sure if you can ake them while pregnant?) and get rid of it once and for all.

Good luck- don't want to be a doom merchant but don't want you to go through what I did. Second time around was much better as I did what I was told

Dont worry about he horses, shingles wont infect animals

Hope you get better soon!!

Not going riding but would love to still go to the yard and see my babies. Doctor was going to admit me to hospital but would have to go into maternity ward and no single rooms available and too high a risk passing it on to other pregnant women.

I find it really hard to do nothing but rest, doctor said to avoid large crowds, young children and those with cancer (low immune) etc. Also said ive a risk of getting pneumonia, could have cried when she said it was the worst case shes seen in a long time.

Im sure none of my lot will complain about having time off work, hubby assures me that he will ride any i want him too. Suppose to be getting my big scan on Monday but think thats going to be a no no!

I know chicken pox is very dangerous for pregnant women, is shingles ok??

I was in hospital after the birth of my second daughter and they thought she had Neonatal Herpes (related somehow to chickenpox) It was bad enough that we were treated like total lepers, but they also told us that she would probably die if she did have it!!!!!

......... luckily in the end she didnt have it anyway!!! She had blisters over the salivary glands!!
