For me it's Bull breeds, Rotties, Setters, Bichons, Airedales, Schnauzers and Portuguese Water Dogs. Duck Tollers also. I think I would like a pair of Fox terriers next, perhaps one wire haired and one smooth.
 
All terriers types really provided they have a good temprement. Poodles, especially smaller ones. Chihuahuas as they are so crazy fiesty. Golden Retrievers though I don't want to own one.
 
My ginger and white JRT, and Mr NFR's black with a white bib Bichon x Yorkie - she's actually a very sweet and loyal little dog. My favourite ever was my rescue brindle and white lurcher pup who had been starved and had a broken leg where his b*stard owner had kicked him - the most loyal and loving dog ever.

I generally like livestock guardians, they're definitely not for everyone but I like their body language and sensible mentality. I quite like Papillons. Working breeds, Malanois, German Shepherds, Border Collies etc.
 
A JRT or almost anything mixed with a JRT please

I also have developed a soft spot for toy poodles as my last YO had two. Completely bonkers, poorly trained, but they were such fun little idiots. I'm not a doodle person but the OG are good.
 
Irish Water Spaniels, absolute clowns in the best way.

labs, golden retrievers, spaniels, pointers but only really english or german not the other pointer like breeds, most terriers, poodles, most fluffy little white things. Basically everything I didn't mention on the other thread 😂

Can't beat border collies. The absolute best - when bred and kept for a purpose, by sensible people.

I also love a lot of other breeds in the right context - whippets, greyhounds, lurchers, pointers, deerhounds, smart terriers, working spaniels, pointers, labs, retrievers... Dogs bred to work and stay sound and do a job. Mostly it's bin-end breeders and idiot owners I don't like!

Pointy ears, clean muzzles, short but functional coat, athletic, slim and fit but muscular not bony, intelligent and trainable but some independence or high prey drive is not an obstacle. Ideally large in size but I have been converted to the odd small, they are very convenient.

I could comfortably keep repeating the three breeds I've had so far (Siberian husky, schipperke, GSD).
 
For my sins, I like athletic intelligent dogs ranging from smallish to medium in size, with reasonable amounts of fur:
Malinois
Australian shepherds
Border collies
Tollers
English cocker spaniels
Finnish lapphunds
And would consider a nice labrador or smaller golden retriever

Just a note on the Finnish Laphunds, that I've only discovered recently. There was one at the para agility I was volunteering at and his handler was an ambulatory wheelchair user and the pair were amazing! The dog was calm and collected, had learned to work at a distance, in particular entering and completing the weave with his handler at least 20m away (some of the able bodied young handlers were practically guiding their dogs past each and every pole in the weave).
 
Ones which are gentle, kind, tolerant, and accepting. Ones which choose to be with you, but don’t want to be inside your skin. Patient with but not wary of strangers, but equally not everyone’s best friend.

They can vary in size between a chunky Westie, to a medium Labrador. All ears are fine as long as they’re soft and willing to have them stroked and cooed over. Medium-long hair, so I can giggle whilst giving them a pretend mohawk and they can look pained and Saint like.

Nothing that has obvious genetic health issues, it’s too heartbreaking.

. What sets mine apart is as you say his sensible mentality, trainability, loyalty, friendliness with everyone and his chill factor all this as a young dog. Plus he is big and furry and doesn't drool.

Bandit is a Kelpie x Collie and I would have another one in a heartbeat because he's ace
 
Rottweilers or a working type terrier bitches. Basically independent minded, intelligent dogs that aren't needy.

But...I'm developing a very soft spot for a well managed malinois o_O not for me now, I'm too old and tired and lacking in energy to do one justice but they do remind me of the very nice GSDs of my childhood and I could have had such fun with one 20 - 30 years ago!
 
Hmmm I will try not to write an essay! Dogs id love to get to live with and discover but life is too short, Beauceron, Picardy shepherd , Dutch shepherd, decently bred kelpie.

Breeds I have been lucky enough to own and adore, Belgian shepherds, A C D s.

Breeds I've owned but not mad to have again labs, spaniels, Rhodesian ridgebacks.

Breeds I love the look of but know we would class training wise so I have resisted, Alaskan malamutes Siberians, Eskimo dogs, Karelian bear dogs.

The cattle dogs and Belgians were amazing dogs, the cattle dogs being the best stock workers I have ever seen, but none of them can equal the incredible joy I get from looking in the eyes of my GSDs. For me they are what makes life worth living.
