Hi all, my old boy is on loan to a friend and is in very light work but she rang me last night saying he wasn't right and I went down this morning for a look.
He is stiff and moving cautiously, his quarters are quite sunken at the sides and soft on top and his back legs are quite puffy but his front legs seem ok.
He lives out and is wandering about his field and eating with his usual enthusiasm but possibly isn't lying down as much and he is quite tucked up.
We cold hosed his legs and have given him a bute and will get the vet on Monday. He is 24 and has some stiffness anyway but the filled legs have thrown me a bit, so any suggestions welcome.
TIA

It's a possibility, I did check his feet for heat and they felt fine but didn't necessarily check for a pulse. He wasn't refusing to move by any means it was just a bit more reserved than normal but I will go and have another look at him with that in mind as I hadn't actually considered that one. Thanks.

The stiffness and being tucked up along with out in a field alerted me. The leg swelling could be from moving less and not lying down. I would be tempted to bring in on a deep bed and feed well soaked and rinsed hay if you cant get the vet until Monday purely because the faster you act with suspected laminitis the better. It wont do any harm but may really help him. You obviously already have bute for him.
Fresh water for each batch of hay soaked.
