Just to post sadly that on Friday I had to have my old friend pts. He went downhill very fast last week and the vet agreed that there was no point in prolonging his life. He had the most peaceful and dignified end. He came from Dogs Trust as an older "foster" dog and we had 5 1/2 years of his company. He is buried in the garden in a small wood. R.I.P. Fitz.

:( I'm so sorry to hear your news. Take comfort from the fact that you were able to give him 5 1/2 good years with you, and that you were able to to give him a dignified end to his life. It's one of the most important things we can do for our animals.

RIP, Fitz. :(

Thank you so much for your words of comfort. He was a lovely dog (collie/alsatian) and we are all grieving for him, but glad that he is at rest. He was my first dog and he will always be special to me.

How very sad, but also how wonderful he was able to live out his life in a loving home and have people to care for him and make good decisions for him when it became necessary. Condolences.

Im so sorry to hear about your old dog Fitz but take comfort from the fact you gave him a wonderful life and a painfree end. You are a very caring owner who had the courage to take that final step.

In tears again but thank you all for your replies, they have been very comforting. Fitz was in the Dogs Trust because his owners had a baby, and they didn't have time for him anymore. How can people be so callous? We chose him because he was good with children and nice to cats!
