Hi guys, my old boy (almost 15) is vomiting a lot, he seems ok in himself and is drinking ok, am a bit worried. I am thinking that I should see how he is tomorrow but can you give me any tips that may ease his vomiting or help him, thanks xx

Prob best not to offer him food to agitate his tummy any more and make him vomit more, and only offer water little and often esp if he is drinking excessivly then bringing it up, this again will only make the vomiting worse.

What is he bringing up i.e undigested food/bile/water ?
How long has he been doing it?

He has vomited 5 times in 2 hours. There seems to be stuff in it that he had days ago, he has always had a problem digesting certain things so I wonder if he has some things in his tummy that it cant break down and so to get rid he has to vomit. We rescued him when he was 1 and hasn't given us 1 trip to the vets due to illness, he is the scruffy terrior in my sig and is the most loyal loving and thankfull boy, he was beaten badly as a pup/1 year old and trusts us with his life so hate to see him unwell, he seems ok in himself but is quiet and shivering so have snuggled him up. Dont plan to give him food, he has access to water. Glad your online Cayla nice to get your advice

5 times in 2 hours is quite alot. I was always told 6 times in a short period warrants emergency vet visit?? They can go downhill alarmingly rapidly from dehydration so he may need popping on a drip until the morning if he is continuing to vomit. Cayla's here I'm sure she can advise you the best course of action!
He looks such a sweet old lad. Fingers crossed that its nothing serious and he makes a speedy recovery.
((((getting better hugs little man))))

Bloody typed reply and it's gone

My old dog has a less accepting tummy now and will vomit with certain food, the amount of times he has vomited in that space of time is alot, if it carries on even when he has not touched his water I would phone the vet esp if he is inclined to chew things around the house or outside.

Is he drinking then vomiting or just vomiting anyway?

Thanks temsik, he seems ok in himself but if he doesn't settle soon will call the vet as he is so special and a bit of an old boy. He is drinking well but not excesively. He has just asked to go out for wander around the garden, we have been hit really hard by the snow which he has not liked so wonder if he has picked up a chill. Fingers crossed x

Cayla he is drinking normally and just seems to be bringing up food. The horrible thing is he wants to eat it after, yuk!!! Will keep an eye and be on the phone to the vet if he keeps vomiting, thanks for your replies, its alien for me to see my loyal old boy not well but he is chirpy and now being cuddled by his dad x

just wanted to say - older dogs may need smaller more frequent meals (3 or 4 times a day) and also that vomiting can be a sign of kidney probs - in an older dog. hopefully its just s bug passing thru but please get the vet to help him as they do go down hill quicker as they get older - hope he is ok x

If the food is undigested he could well have eaten something and it's stuck or eaten something dicky my old girl will somtimes bring up undigested food after a meal, just te once though, def call the vet just to speak to them for now if he carries on vomiting .

I don't supose you have a thermometer and could take his temperature? It is probably nothing but as he is an old lad it is a bit of a worry. It's good that he's drinking. If he keeps it up I would call the vet for a chat sooner rather than later, they tend to be less helpful at 1am! Hope he feels better soon x
