Lovely dogs!:)

Stunning dogs.

I am hoping to rescue a Bullmastiff girl and the rescue are pushing me towards a raw food diet to prevent bloat. I'd prefer to just feed ' normal' stuff like James Wellbeloved as per my other dog.

Do large breeds have to be on raw food diets does anyone know.

No they dont. But dont feed large quantities. Despite their size they dont need huge amounts of food as they are lazy and prone to weight gain. Hooch was on a compound feed for a long time. Emma is on raw as it helps with growth rate but also gets some compound feed if i am disorganised. Trojan had bloat so only has small amounts of compound feed if he needs it. I dont feed any biscuits now on veterinary advice. There are some health questions arising about feeding raw chicken to English Mastiffs so keeping an eye on that situation. Not sure about Bull Mastiffs tbh. If in doubt, contact the Bull Mastiff society/association.

ETA- I do find I worry less about bloat feeding raw without biscuits!

wow they are gorgeous and so huuuuge!!!

can they have problems with there eyes etc with the loose skin the same as the Sharpei?

Yes they can. Not sure what the problems are with Sharpeis but there are several problems Mastiffs have. They can have eyesight problems, cherry eye, and another common one is where the eyelashes turn inwards. Sorry cant think of the names but all are on the OEMC website under health.

Gorgeous dogs! Loving the brindle one, haven't seen many of that colouring before. Have had a couple of these dogs come into work before, and they are the soppiest dogs ever!:D

They most definitely are! Apart from Tojo who is a fierce guard dog!;):D

They dont have to be fierce as they can just sit on you to gain control!

There is a saying that Mastiffs will let burglars in but wont let them out! So true! LOL! We had a party once and was wondering where one chap had gone only to find that Hooch was lying across the toilet door and had been for some time LOL! Chap was too afraid to come out of the toilet!:D

Thank you very much for that. I'm also going to get some advice from the vet aswell. She isn't a large BM so may get away with feeding her the same as my other dog.

4Faults - you're dog is also a stunning boy, what a lucky find to get him from a resuce.

Your boy is lovely! Do you know his breeding?

Unfortunately we dont know his breeding as we rescued him but we have been doing a bit of tracing and think we have managed to find his breeder in West Sussex so fingers crossed we will have more info on him and how he came to be in such a state. When we first got him he would hide under a bush at the bottom of the garden and wouldnt even come out to be fed. Took a lot patience but he now follows me everywhere, hes like my shadow and he is so loving.

Dozzie -your dogs are gorgeous, do you breed them?

LHS- thank you, i love him to bits, I would highly recommened the breed they are so loving. Mine is such a softie considering the start he had.

Lol he always does that, he has his own bed that fits him but as soon as the JRT's get up in the morn he gets in theirs (he likes a lie in :D)

.

No I dont breed them. I might breed from Emma but it isnt easy to breed Mastiffs as you need to be on puppy watch for a couple of weeks after they are born as the bitches can suffocate their pups. So I would have to give up work!:D Unless i could plan them for the summer holidays. But i would be very worried about homing the pups.

Tojo is very similar to your dog and came from W sussex/surrey borders. I think it was Billingshurst area. I will have to check.

I definetly want another, my JRT's play together all the time and Sonny would love to be in on the action but hes just too big and I think he knows it lol he just lets them run all over him so I want another one he can play with and not worry about them
