When I was a kid, I loved the smell of tackrooms...all that leather...(ooh-er) ....ours seemed to be a synthetic zone for a few years, now everyone is getting back into leather, the smell has returned!!

My 5 yo daughter loves going in there and sniffing saddles

( should I be concerned about this?!)....

....other smells that remind me of being around horses when i was a kid include hoof dressings with stockholm tar ( friend of mine was recently seen sniffing my horses feet to get a 'flashback fix') and cornucrescine...

anyone else have any special smell/item that transports them back??

Hoof oil, haylage, feeds which have been laced with molasses, going into the tack room & taking a big sniff to get all the leather smell, love it!

Also the smell of my horse just underneath her mane on her neck. Delicious smell.

The farrier when he's hot shoeing & you can smell the acrid sort of smoke.

Neatsfoot oil.

Sweaty horses

and nothing to do with horses but .... beer hops. It reminds me of home (as was), as it's the first smell that used to hit you when you got off the train. Not even sure if the brewery is there anymore.

No, you are not weird I much prefer kissing the horses to kissing my husband. Theyre not as bristly for a start and have better breath in the morning.

Another nose kisser here! It is a lovely soft pink nosey-wosey just made for kissing! Have to be careful though as she doesn't like being fussed over and may decide to have a bitey-witey!

oh mines a reall soft baby..she groomes you, and leans her chin on your head and pricks her ears when you make noises with your lips on her muzzle..she also loves to lean her forehead against my shoulder and have it rubbed!!..sutch a sweetheart!!
loves to be centre of attention and when she sees me in with another horse beside her stable she leans over the wall, put her chin on the walll so that her lips slouch and she puts her ears back, and then when i take notice of her and say 'ohh willow, dont be soo nasty, god damn it!'..she pricks her ears and nods!..hehe

Definitely the smell of leather tack, it reminds me of when I was a little kid and I used to go to a riding school for lessons. The lady who keeps her tack next to me at the yard has a saddle that smells like it and I have been known to smell it!! I even dragged my aunt into the tackroom once to smell it too!

And my horse smells gorgeous, just behind his ears and also his scrummy soft muzzle.

I don't think any of us are weird, all perfectly normal!! LOL

(I also love the smell of petrol, think this one may not be so good for me though??!)
