Old fly bites

I’m interested in a connie for sale. Ticks all the boxes but there’s always something. He has some old fly bites on his neck and shoulders, owner said they’ve been there since she had him over from Ireland 18 months ago and don’t bother him. Any ideas what this could be? Worth pursuing or would it put you off? Will try to upload some pics

They do look like fly bites in that pic, but they can't be if he's had them for 18 months.

There is a possibility that they could be sarcoids - they are something for an experienced vet to check out and to give their opinion on. They might be some form of dermatitis.

My exact line of thinking just trying to avoid more wasted vetting fees!

Have you got a tame vet who you could show those pics to? They might well say that they can't tell just from a pic, but you might find out more as to whether to proceed to a vetting.

My friends horse has something like this. I can’t remember the technical term or the science but basically it’s an overproduction of something after a bite. Shouldn’t affect the horse in anyway. Friends horse now goes out with fly rug etc to prevent further bites
