Old horse 'tails'...

Oh well, I passed my driving test and moved house on Friday the 13th (yes, I did both on the same day!) so I'm not into all that superstition!

I bought my Foxy on Friday 13th and also passed my driving test on Friday 13th :D

PLEASE don't change the horses name!!!! *runs for the hills*

I think that there are lots of regional versions of the white feet rhyme. The one I was taught in Somerset as a child was:

One white foot buy him,
Two white feet try him,
Three white feet look well about him,
Four white feet do best without him.

Have to say it is deeply ingrained in my memory and does pop up in my mind when I view horses with a lot of white on them but has never actually put me off buying an otherwise ok horse.

Well, he may retain it as a 'middle' name that no one ever utters but there's no way a member of my family is having such a moniker! Not to be a snob (*followed by sentence that is blatantly snobby*) but it's the sort of name Vicky Pollard would name her first born. Shall not repeat it here in case I offend anyone with said name :/

Go on.. say it.. I'll protect you :D

Oh dear, I decided against viewing one with one white foot in favour of this one :/ Clearly I like to walk on the dark side of the street... Although according to an earlier post, white bits let the devil out so mine will have evil just pouring out of him! Lol.

No way! I've learnt my lesson from many an office discussion along the lines of:

'God, I hate the name '*****'; it's just so chavvy'

Followed by horrified looks and utters through gritted teeth of: 'That's my son's/ dad's/ brother's/ dead grandad's/ third cousin thrice removed's name.'

Awkward.

Then the desperate scramblings of: 'It's not that I hate the name, just that it doesn't suit certain people in certain situations...'

You could feel the tumble weed brush your face...

I heard that a prophets thumb means that its a talented horse.

Also, big ears means a genuine honest horse which in my experience has been very true.

Two whirls on the forehead are good luck.

Changing a horse's name is bad luck (although over here it is common to change horses' names and when I've mentioned this superstition to the Dutch they have never heard of it)

I also tried a chestnut mare with 4 white socks and she certainly did live up to the superstition - she bolted (actually bolted, not just got strong) with me up a 4 acre field :s

Yeah had heard it was bad luck to change a horse's name .... also bad luck apparently to change your cross country colours - though heard that one many many years ago

We've all been there :D

Bred a chestnut mare with 4 white socks, very sweet nature! Personally found 'problems' tend to come in other colours just as much. Wonder if it is because white legs more prone to mud fever, which would have been an issue for a working horse in the past.
