One of ours injured a check ligament in a foreleg 2 years ago. It was completely healed within 6 months but she's only just returned to competitive jumping for unrelated reasons. After she's jumped (that evening, say) the leg is always a little bit filled, although she's always sound.

Do you think this is due to increased blood flow and lack of elasticity in that area, or something more sinister? Has anyone else experienced anything similar after a ligament or tendon injury?

Hi there. My pony did her check ligament last year and is just coming back into work. After she's been worked the area fills a little. We tend to hose down for 10 mins and then the rest overnight in her stable seems to take it back down., but it's always there a little bit. Vet said that the swelling may always be there, and just to become concerned if heat appears, it becomes bigger than normal or she goes lame again.

My pony did a deep flexor tendon, and he now has a permanent swelling just above the annular ligament, it goes rock hard after exercise, very odd. I did cold hose it every time he was ridden to start with, but it is not so bad now and I have got blase and tend to ignore it. Oops.
