Hoping someone can shed some light here. My mare took a kick to the back of her hind leg October last year, the cut went deep down to the tendons but vets reckoned no damage was done to them - no lameness or foot hanging or any other syptoms of tendon damage- I can't afford a scan to check so we've kept ours fingers crossed.
It healed pretty well, there's a small bump where the cut was and her leg is probably slightly thicker than the other but it's fine. However just of late its been puffy. Not hot or tight, no lameness or uncomfort but it's not as it should be. It goes down with work and only gets puffy after standing in.
Has anyone come across this before? What have you done about it? I don't want to push her riding too much (she's a very good jumping horse) and injure it but I also don't want to not do anything.
Thanks!

You need to scan to check, they really aren't very expensive in the great scheme of keeping horses.
Plenty of tendon and ligament problems do not really present as lameness just swelling so you have no idea what is going on until scanned and you are taking a risk working her without. One leg is thicker than the other, after trauma and it's puffy, it needs checking as it could also be something completely unrelated to the initial injury.
