Old Mac Horse Boots are just fab! Anyone else use them?

Started using Old Mac's for the veteran I loan about a year ago as he has to be barefoot cos metal shoes cause him concussion of joints and make him lame! He never used to do much work until I took him on and now we love to hack!

Only prob was he struggled on stoney ground and dragged one foot due to old knee injury so he was being lazy with that leg and began to wear his hoof into a funny square shape, eek! Got too near the white line for my liking so invested in a pair of 'trainers' for him! (£106 per pair but well worth every penny and only use on fronts)

Was nervous at first when riding him in them as was convinced he'd trip, get them stuck together and splat me on the floor, but he is soooo surefooted in them it's untrue and he overtracks really nicely and everything! He absolutely loves them and knows when I get them out we are going hacking! They were a bit fiddly to get on to start with but once I got the hang of it they are now ell easy and he helps too by stamping him foot into them like a kiddie putting their shoes on! How sweet he is!

If anyone is thinking of investing for their barefoot neddy I would say go ahead - my boy is 26yrs this year and they have extended his working life indefinitely

They are fab. Agree with everything above. I used to use them on my old pony and could go anywhere and do anything with them on. Well what I mean is that didn't stop him doing anything. Sadly it didn't suddenly mean my pony could piaffe!
 
I haven't got Old Mac's but use the Easyboot Bares on one of my horses. They are fab, no slipping, twisting or rubbing. Have heard really good reports about the Old Mac's but they weren't an option for my horse due to the shape of his feet.
 
At the summer camp I was at last year they used a pair on an old horse without them she wouldn't have been able to be ridden. They were then used on a horse who was lame, without them he was walking on three legs in the field, with them he was almost sound.
 
Where did you get yours from? I've had some on order for 3 months from a local tack shop and am still waiting. I'm new here by the way, just registered after being a "lurker" for some time! I have a 15h piebald cob who is of course (as all yours are too) the best horse in the world! She has arthritis in her knees and I thought Old Macs would help but am getting tired of waiting and being told "they will be here in 2 weeks". I'm in Lincs so could get some at Burghley if I didn't mind waiting another 3 months!
 
i had a pair but my pony didnt like them, he refused to canter in them and disliked trotting in them, even though they did fit him. i suppose some just get on with them others dont.

a friend of mine uses them on her pony tho, and she swears by them!
