I have recently bought a TB who had a pretty bad accident in the field a while ago which has left him with a big scar on his leg. In winter I was applying oil and that kept the skin looking good. I’m worried about applying oil when it’s so hot and wondering what else people have tried and found to work best? It’s in the joint so the skin is always stretching.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

Don't use aqueous cream unless you buy a version with no SLS in it, it's very bad for skin.

I'd be using Sudocrem on that.

Battles Yellow Fly Cream is the answer to that. Moisturising, healing, fly repellent and sun screen all in one alarming yellow cream that stains everything but is a pot of magic.

I can confirm it is alarming in colour and stains everything it gets anywhere near. You only make the mistake of putting it on without gloves once!

I use a tiny amount in the ears of a pony that struggles with midges and plaque stuff/flaky skin in his ears - it works a treat.

Thanks everyone, my vet gave me a few ideas but one she mentioned was bio-oil which I’m wary about. He seems to react to quite a bit so I’ll go with E45 and pop some sunblock on top on hot days for extra protection. Hopefully that will do the job

Aqueous and emollient creams are also flammable due to the paraffin. I’m sure it’s unlikely that the horse would burst into flames, but just wanted to mention it 🤣
