Old style 'taming' of horses.

I know of a bloke who use to 'calm' 'crazy' horses.

He basically went Into the stable/ barn with them, on his own....


And poured lead shot down their ears!!! Poor things were stiff with shock, he was hailed as a master horseman.

Ridiculous!!
 
I love that boys can teach themselves riding, but girls must have lessons, or they might not look pretty in the saddle!:rolleyes::D

It is certainly an eye-opener - unfortunately in some countries 'training' methods have not moved on much, as I have seen for myself:(

It froze the horse will fear/ shock or whatever, and as it would be quiet after it was assumed that he had 'tamed' it.

It was also likely that he'd killed it!!! (obviously not on the spot though)

If you look back through history there are tonnes of little gems like that :-/

It is! I think the idea was that the shot would rattle and the horse would freeze due to the frightening sound and sensation (and possibly drop dead from an ear infection a few weeks or months later, but by that time no doubt the 'horse whisperer' would have moved on to the next place...)
 
OMG I am so glad that the old style of 'taming' horses is gone, I can still remember only 30 odd years ago a friend and I were out hunting and her pony was quite exciteable and been told by someone from the old school to take her horse and give a "jolly good gallop up on the moor to get the energy out of it"!! Amazing, I am sure the natural horsemanship people would have something to say to that, ie. don't give into the horse, when my horse anticipates a gallop he is jolly well made to walk until I want him to trot and even then if he starts to jog and get strong, he is made to walk again until he settles,he soon learns :eek:
