Well done. Its a lovely sanctuary, my neice does voluntary work there. Therey have second hand book sales quite often, people that live clse enough can take any unwanted books there!
I'm so relieved that he made it ok, very sad for his owners but sure it'll be a weight off their minds too. Well done Llewelyn, I'm going to post a cheque to the sanctuary, hope that'll be ok xxxx What was he called?? Xx
So glad to read this update and know that he's going to get the very best of care now. I really do hope his owners will be well enough to go and see him so they know they did the right thing too
I do hope the owner gets to go and see him there - all happy and having the things which are important to a horse attended to. I can see where the old guy in coming from, but have to come down on the side of the welfare needs of the horse. He didn't deserve to 'suffer' because some human wanted him there because he'd miss him otherwise. The horse is not 'gone for ever', or 'out of bounds', just in a safer, better place with his own kind enjoying the attention I would imagine he urgently needs.
The gentleman can now devote his time to his wife and hopefully unloading the horse duties will give him time to do that safe in the knowledge his 'pal' is in the best of hands.
so happy that this wee fella has some warmth and attention. gotta feel for the old couple but they must know that this is the right thing for him. at least he can live the rest of his life in comfort. I hope the old guy can go up with you to see him, then he can see for himself.
well done Llewelyn, you're a star x
What a decent person you are, so many would of brushed the pony's plight off but you have been prepared to help, I do feel for the elderly gentleman amd really hope you can take him to see his pony, will donate but can only afford small amount, sorry but only just got a job again after redundancy
Now you are all making me feel tearful again! One of the advantages of growing older is that it means you are more prepared to stick your neck out if you think something is right.
Agree with you brighteyes - the welfare issue is most important here, and ignorance is not an excuse. Even though I felt sorry for them, I still wouldn't change what I did.
I get the feeling he wouldn't accept help years ago simply because he couldn't ever see a problem in keeping a horse alone in a field. His original comment when I said your horse is very thin is well, he's old. I managed to resist saying well, you're old and you're not thin!
I haven't put the horse's name on here out of respect for privacy and in case it caused any issues, but I guess if you keep an eye on the Remus website he will soon be mentioned in the newsletter as one of the latest arrivals. The couple agreed to him going so there is no court case etc so I guess there is no need for secrecy really, I just haven't used his name in case someone knew him and objected to stuff going onto a public website
I know this sound pathetically sentimental but your actions have genuinely given me hope that there are good people out there who do care. 10 years in community regeneration knocks faith out of you a bit and you've gone a long long way to restoring that for sure.
Very happy ending and wonderful story. I don't have much cash but i'll be making a small donation for sure. Full marks to remus
Thank you Minxie - I feel the same about the people on here restoring my faith etc. I don't post a great deal, but when I needed support, I have had it in bucketloads.
For me it was a no-brainer and I would have done exactly the same. I'm not overly worried about the owner as he is of a generation which sees things in a slightly different light than we do in our enlightened times. No disrespect to him at all, but as we have become more aware of what is unacceptably inhumane to animals, as you so rightly say, ignorance is no excuse. In this case, though, no harm was intended and I'm just relieved he acquiesced so quickly.
Have a few more congratulatory pats on the back. Did you enjoy the cake?
You are definitely not the only one who will be sleeping well tonight
Thank you for being such a caring person. Remus are a very good charity, they were one of the ones who were willing to help my friend with his old mare when he ran into financial difficulty and could not afford to both eat and feed his family and keep the horse.
I will be donating Monday when I can do the gift aid form.
It must be very sad for the old couple, but if they can get to see him, that would be lovely for them to be able to do.
If only more folks and charities were like you and Remus - I won't mention the several large well known ones whose response when we asked if they could point us to anyone wanting a light hack/excellent companion was to have a healthy, no vices and a steady but getting on mare pts, who now don't get a penny from me.
Cant begin to tell you how glad I am there are people like you Llewelyn.
The first of many nights tucked up in a nice warm bed, with lots of hay for him.
Donation made
Well done you! i have followed this from your 1st post and i'm so glad that the pony is comfortable now. I know it was hard on the owners, but at least they do not have the worry of it all now.
You did all that you could and it paid off. you must be that ponies gardian angel.
Donation made.
