Had a bad day yesterday - have accidentally upset someone over this - I have been told I should not be interfering but I stood my ground and said I wouldn't drive by and see him starve to death. Can't really give more details about what's been said, but rug situation is sorted - am going to meet niceweatheronly tomorrow and he is wearing one of mine at the moment.

Have got a permanent headache now because I am lying awake worrying and getting up and worrying and didn't feel like posting yesterday. But I went back to my second post this morning and just want to thank everyone for their advice and concerns. I am speaking to a sanctuary which is giving me good, up to date advice on feeding him.

I feel very helpless and rather down over it all.

Dont feel down over this.......if every body walked by what sort of a world would we live in. you are showing care and compassion which are fantastic qualities.

You are doing the right thing...you havent committed a crime and your conscience is clear as you didnt just stand by and do nothing.

Hun, for your own sanity you need to let the authorities step in and take this over. You've done an amazing job making this old ponies life more bearable

but it's obviously taking it's toll on you now. Maybe contact the BHS Welfare department and let them take it from here. Kudos to you for not turning a blind eye

You are doing the right thing and the Sanctuary you are in touch with have years of experience of nursing oldies back to health
Good luck and thank you for caring enough.

I have concerns that a large charity will just put him down, because he is so old and thin. But I think he deserves a few happy months at least, (maybe I am just overly sentimental) and he has perked up no end since having more feed. He whinnies, follows me round the field, even defended his feed against the threat of my dog getting too close - he may not be as old as I was told too.

Also it's all happened over a bank holiday period, I did initially ring two helplines but didn't get anyone. I need the BHS helplline - anyone got it to hand or I can google?

The sanctuary will I think have a place for this pony if owners can be persuaded to hand him over--BHS no longer have their own centre.

Just to echo what the previous posters have said: Well done for not ignoring this poor pony, you should be really proud of yourself for what you have achieved when it could have been easy to walk on by, you have bothered to step in and do something !

You are a kind, compassionate person and need to remind yourself of this!!!!!

Have just spoken to someone - hopefully things will get moving. Have apologised for upsetting someone else who was trying to sort pony but they also admitted they hadn't been down for a bit and hadn't realised how poor he was getting. I do think he has suddenly dropped weight due to snow and wet so lots of people deserve credit for trying in the past. I just happened to see him at his lowest and stepped in.

Am burbling now, will shut up.

Well, BHS Welfare took in Carrot and Spud and they were in an horrific condition hun. I'm sure you could Google the number

. You should be proud of yourself chick, you've gone out of your way to help this old boy xxx

BHS welfare didn't take in carrot and spud they went to a local charity who had space. the BHS were involved with the RSPCA to facilitate the seizing of the animals.

well done for giving this pone a helping hand

Thanks everyone - just going off now to make sure I have everything I might need in the lorry. Rugs, feed, not sure what else. Lunge rein. Food for me!
