Just wondering have you ever heard strange sayings or theories about dogs and if they have ever rung true?

I have heard from several people (my mother included, who admits it sounds silly) that a GSD puppy with black spots on its' tongue will grow up to be a really quality dog.

Also, if a dog can lie down with its' legs stretched out behind it, it will have really good hips.

Any others you have heard?

Most staff's lie with their hips right out and j.r.t's, I would agree it's a sign of good hips

The spots, I was always told, is the sign of a dodgy temperament

I took my dog to the vets a few months ago because he has stiff back legs and the vet asked if he laid with his legs out straight when he was younger and said that dogs that do that have loose hips and will usually end up with arthritis.

Well most of my line have black spots on their tongues, so it must be true.

But Evie doesn't

I have always said if they lie down like frogs their hips are either brilliant or atrocious!
One we used to often think was true was that you can tell a bitch is in whelp before she is showing because she will have a ridge of hair sticking out on her flanks.
Cala, my gran used to say if you gave dogs white bread they would have fits.
