I'm a bit slow on Warmblood breeding and studs but I'm amazed that I can only find one Oldenburg breeder in the UK on google... are there any more or am I being stupid, do they have to come from that region to be a true Oldenburg(er?).

Any clarity would be great!!

Oldenburg is like Hanoverian it is just a region of germany. There are several breeders in the UK who stand oldenburg stallions the pidgley's for one. If you use an oldenburg stallion and mare, then the passport issued may be from the oldenburg verband. I know that the do branding each year in the Uk and if you ring them they are more than willing to help. Hope this helps

I have an Oldenburg mare who is in foal and there are a lot of us smaller Oldenburg breeders out there, we are thinking of planning a show for next year with Louis Alard so all the breeders can meet up and show their stock off as we dont have a stud book in the UK it would be a way of showing off the youngstock, the Germans are keen on the idea and will come over to judge. There are a lot of Oldenburg bred stallions over here but alot of them are not licensed, we imported a gorgeous Oldenburg stallion this year, he was fully approved (we put him through it) and he will be standing at stud next season, not with us as we sold him on.

Actually it sounds like a golden opportunity for you to all get together and lay the foundations for a proper daughter studbook for the Oldenburgs in the UK :-). I am probably seeing Lois tomorrow so will put that to her, especially as once the Oldenburg breeders in the UK have that status the Oldenburg Verband will be able to set up an agreement with NED to allow them to upload performance data (competiton wins etc) for all Oldenburg-registered horses in the UK, which would be very helpful to both German and UK breeders in calculating EBVs, fulfilling performance and progeny requirements etc. :-)

Registering british-bred Oldenburg foals etc through a DEFRA-listed daughter society in the UK (which would have to abide to the breeding regulations of the Oldenburger Veband to the letter) along the lines of the BHHS does as a daughter society of the Hannoverian Verband, would also mean that Oldenburg breeders in the UK would no longer have to have their passports overstamped by AES, BHHS, BWBS, SHBGB, SSH, TBF (or BSPA or CHAPs if coloured) to take part in the Futurity / Young Horse Evalautions etc, which will save you money too :-)

Sounds great to me !!! definately interested in the show next year please keep us updated xx

That made very interesting reading, thanks for that, I'd love to come along to a show and see some up close. This has all come from my weird ability to pick one out from any advert without having to read the words, I just seem to be drawn to them!! Look forward to seeing a strong British contingent in the future.

Thanks Ciss, my husband Jason has spoke with Lois a few times it is just working out "how" and "where" to run it. I was under the impression that the Oldenberg were happy to run a show over here but would never allow a daughter stud book, not sure how true this is but would def be great if they did
