Hi
I'm looking to possibly buy an older (1999) Bockmann Comfort trailer. I had a Ifor Williams 510 previously which was lovely but my horse hated it!
I would be buying from a reputable dealer so I know the trailer would be serviced up to scratch, just wondering if anyone has any experience of these? It is rear load/unload which would be new to me and has a composite floor.
Any opinions welcome 🙂
Many thanks.

Can you get them in front unload?

I don’t know Bockmanns , but I’m old enough to remember the days before front unload trailers were a thing, and I’d never go back to rear unload only.

Apart from having to back the horse out every time there is no second way out in the event of mishap.

No, Bockmanns are rear unload only. They are the rolls royce of trailers. I always wanted one. I almost always took mine off backwards even when there was a front door, so for me it wouldnt be an issue. Personal preference though.

We had one of these and only swapped it as we needed a bigger trailer. They are solid, rattle free, and travel well. The floor may only be composite but we had no problems with it in 15 years of ownership. The key thing with the floor is that the rubber matting is sealed in place along the edges, so check that the seal is still good. That trailer only comes in rear load/unload but we never had any problems with that, nor did our horses. The advantage is the lack of a front ramp makes the trailer far more rigid and stronger. Check that the draw bar compressor still works, and look for the date stamp on the tyres to see how old they are. Change them if they are 7 years old or older, not because they are worn out but because the side walls can deteriorate.
