Our collie is now 10 and showing signs of slowing down (eventually). However this is manifesting itself as stifness through the hips and pelvis area. Its only slight but both me and OH have noticed it lately. She is still very happy and keen to run and excercise but stiffens afterwards.

Thoughts on a good allround everyday joint supplement in tablet form if possible.

I posted recently about my Lab who had similar problems. She has a magnetic collar which helped and was on Joint Aid. This was a year ago. She is now on Metacam which has definitely helped. I had a long chat with my vet which was really helpful.
I am currently trialling her on NAF Super Flex Joint treats.

Fish oils are apparently really good with helping with joint mobility because of the omega 3, 6 & 9 content.

Fish4Dogs Salmon Oil may be worth checking out - it is in liquid form but perhaps that's easier than tablets.:)

Excuse spelling -

joint suppliments - glocusamine human kind will do - seraquin available from vets (includes gocusamine) or might be better on a pain killer like metacam/loxicom only available from vet.

My old girl, Puppy, really benefitted from the canine Cortaflex, it gave her a new lease of life :)

Thanks everyone, this gives me lots to investigate and try out for her. As I say, she isnt awful but we can see that her stride length isnt so good anymore bless her.

Synoquin is very good but very expensive. Green lipped muscle from a shop like Holland and Barratt is also good and much cheaper.

Glucosamine that has chondriotin sulphate is really good for dogs, particularly if you give it with fish oils. I have a very arthritic dog and she now gets Pentosan injections every three months (FANTASTIC stuff) along with Lubrisyn and my old dog I started on a glucosamine product just to use it up as I didn't think she was stiff at all but she has a new lease of life and I now realise the she had slowed down somewhat!!!

Thats really useful Paddockornament, thank you. I have lots to research and compare now and will def try and find something with all three ingredients if possible.

Our Goldie is 8 now and suffering with hip dysplasia - she has hydrotherapy treatment once a fortnight which has helped LOADS as it takes the weight off her legs and builds up her muscle tone. She is on Seraquin every day (one tablet) and Metacam when she needs it :) she is stiff after every hydro session and after any long walks, but she soon walks it off.
Try glucosamine sulphate, cortaflex, or anything including fish oil - cod liver oil tabs if your dog will eat them in food :)
Speak to your vet they may be able to supply you with Metacam on an ad-lib basis that's what we do :)
Hope this helps

My 13 year old Samoyed has the same problem. So much so, that before xmas we were thinking very adly of letting her go to the kennel in the sky.

But Devil's Claw saved her. In capsuals from Holland and Barret. She has 3 a day and is feeling fab! Everyone has noticed how playful and full of beans she is. Lying down is still a bit tricky and she turns in smaller and smaller circles eventually collapsing! But she is lively and lovely.

Give it a go. Good Luck

Hi the pedigree complete feeds 8+ have omega 3 oils in it as I have found some of the supplements quite expensive and its also helpful if your dog is a fussy eater and smells things in food etc.
hope he feels better soon
