Older horse insurance recommendations

I was about to sort insurance out for one of my horses and was slightly shocked to find he's 15 I guess he's been 13 a very long time when I think about it!!!
Anyway on the site I was looking at this classes him as veteran. Can anyone recommend me a good veteran policy please? One that provides vet cover but wouldn't need to be a massive amount of cover as I'd not put him through operations/ colic surgery etc as he'd hate it but just want peace of mind if he should injure himself.

I switched both of my horses to petplan when they reached 15 as they have really good cover for older horses. My 22yr old is with Petplan and has full vet cover.

Mine are both 17 and are with Equine Insurance Solutions. I think they are still on the "normal" policy, not veteran. One was with them since 15 and one only since last year (I know companies tend to favour horses they've insured since they were "young" but we've had no problems with either horse).

I think it depends who you insure with!

Thank you- will take a look at both. Would either of you know the limit for vets bills and maybe the excess off the tops of your heads?

Petplan is v good for oldies. If you insure them soon enough they will fully cover them up to I think 25. I think max is £5000 excess I think £120 or it was.

Ours fractued his Tibia at 22yr 18 months ago. They paid out without question £5000 of the £6900 hospitalisation and Vets bill. Only exclusion they put on was anything to do with the fracture on that leg. I was amased.

Petplan will insure up to their 25th birthday if you insure before they are 20. You need to insure on the normal insurance and not the veteran one if you want full cover for illness. The max is 5000 per illness and the excess is 135 pounds.
