My Connie is only 13 but has arthritis in his hocks and was also taking a while to walk the stiffness off so I spoke to the vet and we agreed one sachet of Danilon a day would make him more comfortable. I look upon it in the same way that I take naproxen so I can move when I get out of bed in the morning.

If he walks it off quickly I wouldn’t go straight to meds now either. I’d probably start working my way through supplements containing glucosamine/MSM. There are literally hundreds on the market and what works for one does nothing for another. There are many recommendations on here if you search.

My retired boy is fab during the summer but can be a bit stiff coming out of his stable in the morning in the winter. There is nowhere locally for him to live out 24/7 all year and I won't send him away so we manage what we have with danilon in the winter but not in summer so his tummy gets a break. I also don't start on the danilon until he starts to look a bit stiff, I don't do it automatically. The first winter he started on it in December, last winter not until mid-January. He's had arthritis for over 10 years though and we've only gone for the danilion for the last two winters If it was a relatively new thing I'd look at other options first. Lots of people swear by boswellia although I don't think it made any difference to Archie.

I have been stunned (in a good way) at the difference boswellia made to my 19yo. I am happy to admit to being cynical that a 'herbal' (i.e. in my books, not backed up by years of robust academic work) over the counter remedy could make that much difference, but it appears to have done, in her case. I had tried a few other MSM glucosamine etc. based products without as dramatic a change. My own stiffness/aches DO seem to respond to MSM etc. but I also resort to NSAIDs, so if I have to go there for her, I will.

Massive difference in mine with Bosweillia. I buy hack up - could probably buy cheaper if I mixed something myself but as their formula works I am scared to experiment!!

I give my 20yr old Harpagyl which is Devils Claw, he has been a bit stiff lately but does walk it off, I'm looking for something else to help him, and am open too ideas, there is so much choice out there its very confusing, Green lipped muscles, MSM, Chondroitin, and all the other ones!
