This is more a "life in the UK" query than an actual question.

Where I come from the older style Passier gp/ap/whatever you want to call it type saddle is the saddle of choice (or at least of desire) for starting youngsters etc. There are a fair number about (because of lots of older German immigrants perhaps?) and while they have kept their value if you're willing to pay you can find them.

Are they simply not available here? Is it just a case that no one in the UK brought in Passiers 10 or 20 years ago? (But there are lots of Stubben's about . . .) Or is it that people hang on to the ones they've got? (But I've not even seen many here - in Canada every school and breaking yard would have at least one, some schools use them almost exclusively.)

I could just shoot myself for selling my old one. I brought my newer Passier jumping saddle but if I'd known the other would be so hard to replace I would have considered it worth it to bring that one, too. I'm seriously considering buying one in North America and having it shipped!

Eek, this is starting to sound like an agony aunt letter! Anyway, if anyone has any thoughts about where I might look (have perused the internet pretty thoroughly and have better people than me on the job) I'd love to know.

i now have 3 older Passier saddles!

i bought that last one on eBay about 6 weeks ago- £186 inc P&P and it is a really lovely, comfy saddle.

not sure about people exporting them... i fell in love with them as they were the only saddles available at a dressage yard i worked on in my teens.
they have 40+ passier saddles there and very nicely GAVE me my first one as it was the only saddle in the world (so it seemed) that fitted my 4yro mare.

Passier is not quite as popular here as you might expect. I seriously rate their saddles though. Best place to be looking is on Ebay or put a wanted ad on Horsequest/British Dressage. The GP ones might not be as common but worth a shot. You could also phone around some saddlers - some will have second hand stock and may be able to point you in the right direction.
