I’m looking for an older mare & foal or pony trailer to take one 15.1hh mare. however most of the ones i have seen don’t seem to have a weight plate – what are the implications of this I’m happy to get a weight certificate from my local weigh bridge but do I also need to purchase a trailer plate & if so how much? Any help much appreciated. Thanks.

If it's old enough to be made before they had to have a plate on them ( I want to say '95 but that is just off the top of my head and is most likely wrong) then you don't need one.

You don't need a weigh bridge certificate either. If the traffic cops want to stop you and escort you to a weighbridge they can of course but having a certificate wouldn't stop them doing this anyway as they'll want to check the load your carrying that day rather than just the weight of your trailer anyway.

I'm not an expert though, I only know what I was told during towing lessons so I am more than happy to be corrected on any or all of this!!

What she said :) If it's old enough not to have one, you don't need one.
