oldies not accepting foal

Im not used to my horses being complete mardy bums. My mare has always embraced newbies and been a great nanny, however shes spent the last 2 years with a very over bearing and bossy WB. Who i hasten to add she seems to hate.

Since having our new 6 month old filly shes turned into evil ears back eyes bulging thing towards her.

My vet suggested not letting foaly out with H the WB because of his attitude - hes big and kicks and will chase horses into submission, so I have to stable him and let the other two out but my mare is now picking on foaly, she will also gaurd H within several metres if hes on the other side of the fence or in his stable (jealousy im thinking)


I think the easiest thing will be to have foaly in her own paddock least till shes big enough to fend for herself.

I am worried about her not having any friends to play with though, and dont want her stressed at such an early stage.

Any ideas?

Can you not get another youngster, or borrow one for her to into a paddock with? Youngsters really need others to interact with so don't think being on her own would be a good idea. Is she being injured or just picked on?

I would give it a while as long as your mare isnt attacking the baby.
Your mare is trying to get her place back in the herd and seems determined not to be bottom of the pile again.

I wouldnt worry to much about it as long as she isnt attacking the foalie, it should settle down after a while
 
Im not allowed anymore on the land , that was my first idea, I asked but the answer was no


guido16 I think your right there about her not wanting to be bottom again. Ideally id like H out on his own he can see them over the fence but thats not good enough for him , he will literally stress out for hours and hours and make himself ill.

My mare is going for her but the foal runs off so nothing happening as yet, she did manage to corner her today next to Hs stable and he was biting 7 bells out of her whilst the mare wouldnt let her get out, I had to intervene as foaly was very stressed.

My stables are in the feilds, and if my mare isnt right in view he will kick the stable down and throw himself at the door, he was a rescue and although weve mananged to sort most issues the seperation anxiety is terrible.
 
Do they respect electric fencing?

What would H do if you put him out on his own with foalie, and mare in next field (electric fenced)

Sometimes it is better to introduce a newbie to the head of the herd. That way, once he excepts the foalie, the others should aswell?

I had thought about that today, putting her out with him but shes so bendy and little and hes 17.2, id hate her to end up with broken bones or anything :\ vet did say wait at least a month , hmmm flipping horses lol
