I thought Oli rode exceptionally well and deserved to win. In the past he has been criticised by sometimes "over riding" the horses and getting them into the bottom of the fences, but I watched his XC round and it was as good as any I have ever seen on TV. He was also cutting the corners as much as possible to get the time.
WFP also did a great job of course.
Going back an awful long way, I think the best riding I have ever seen on TV was Mark Philips at Burghley, riding Maid Marion (to win?).
Badminton was lovely viewing on the TV, the time was much harder to get than everyone had predicted, yet there were few faults and incidents and it was so nice to see riders and horses having a good time and getting home in one piece.
Cut & paste from an article found via Google:
Flint Curtis was bred by his owner Edward Nicholson, who stood his sire, the successful show jumping stallion William Curtis at his stud in Lincolnshire. William Curtis was a son of the HIS Thoroughbred Garnered best known as the sire of Karen Dixon's prolific four-star and British team horse Get Smart. Flint Curtis is out of Zircon, a mare by the well-known Leicestershire hunting stallion John O' Gaunt.
So yes, he was bred for the job he is doing so well. I used to watch William Curtis jumping at HOYS and always liked him. He is also the sire of Williams Spirit who looked likely to be a real star for Di Lampard until injury sidelined him for a long period.
I'm going to send the above to NED as they have very little data on this important line, showing how much more work needs doing before it is any use whatsoever!
Shows how good old fashioned TB bloodlines are still reaping the goods. In that pedigree you have horses like Precipitation, My Babu Tantieme and Relic. Ok its several generations back but those names come up again and again in the top sport horses over several generations. NED needs to show this!
