I've read a few posts on here, overheard a few things and heard a few comments about him. What's the deal; is he not liked?

I don't know the guy and from the interviews I've read about him he seems nice enough. I was just wondering what was going on?

I think a lot of it is because he comes across as a little bit arrogant - in common with a lot of young men that age. The difference is he is a lot more visible than most.

Also, he's very young to be doing that well and has a lot of horses, out and about, winning lots of events, getting the time when a lot of other riders are not, for whatever reason.

Some jealousy as well maybe.

I think he is a bit too over-confident really - which tends to annoy people! It will bring him down a peg or too if he has a few horses out with injury! It happens to everyone at some time. A lot of top names have a few "lean years" at some point in their career. Oli is very lucky that everything is going well for him at the moment!

yes, but just because hes doing well, doesnt mean hes not a nice person...

Amy Tryon was doing well...

I agree Amy May!! Horrid

Anyway - I hope all that have commented badly on Oliver know him well enough to do so !!!

The horsey world is so fickle!! LOL

Dont know the guy - dont know anyone that does - seems like a good rider who is making waves in the equestrian world.
Pays his taxes so he will do for me!!

Yeah, only met him the once and thought he was lovely, and not at all arrogant

he rode our horse for us when michelle couldnt, and didnt want paying, he was lovely

I did a course walk with him at Gatcombe last year. I thought he was lovely, not at all cocky, explained it clearly and answered any questions we had. Did I mention he was cute as well

TBH I can see the percieved arrogance that folk talk about, I would certainly prefer to meet OT than WFP, after WFP told my stepdaughter to follow him round Badminton cos he didnt have time to sign an autograph!! Now that is just plain ignorant, so I told him we wouldnt bother because his space would be filled with someone else, and we got Mark Todd!!!
I do think Oli is sometimes a little over confident but then there a few more people who would benefit from a bit more self promotion.

See I have always gotten on with WFP

At the end of the day, they are all like the rest of us - get us on a bad day and we come across rather differently to how we usually are

I have no probs with Oli's arrogance, he does well, he deserves to be a bit cocky and so what if he is arrogant!? He is good in the public eye and is a good performer. However I wouldnt send a horse to him.

I know someone whos really good friends with him - they seem to like him. I dont know him so couldnt possible judge, and i dont know how anyone else could without knowing him properly.

I've met oli a few times now and he is a lovely guy, yes he can came across arrogant at times but most young good looking men can be like that at times!!!!

First time i met him I picked him up of the ground after falling off

and he came back later on and found me to say thank you and to apologies if he was off hand at the time (which he wasn't) he then bought me a drink that night!!!!

The word I'd use describe Oli is charming

IMO he is one of this country's best riders.

I have also met WFP a good few times as well and put it this way I'd have oli any day over WFP!

I'm afraid the last bit applies to alot of male eventers from what I've seen.

Poor chap,we had a lesson with him through pony club once, which wasn't the best lesson but it was the dearest.Other than that I don't know him and I definately would not wish him any harm. Surprised by some of the comments, NO SHOCKED IS THE RIGHT WORD

Sadly not just male event riders, but thats a different subject. As with everything, there are some good, some bad. Oli is one I choose as being someone who would never get a horse from me. There are other eventers I feel the same about, and others I would gladly send a horse to

I knew him quite well at pony club and he was always a nice enough guy then... most guys are a bit cocky, give him a break!

the riding centre i used to ride at had him eventing quite a few of their horses i went to watch him at your horse live and he sounded like her was talking alot of sense and was a nice, funny guy

Public face...

I read somewhere that he rode a horse to the finish once when it had gone lame. There was no suggestion that he knew that though, it may have simply been an oversight in the heat of competition. There was no suggestion either that the horse was as lame as Amy Tyron's. Anyway I guess that could have resulted in some negative comments as referred to by the OP.

I love him, he's a super rider and I cheer him on whenever they show some eventing coverage on TV and he's competing. He ain't bad looking either...

He doesn't come across as too arrogant or cocky...now Ellen Whitaker, that's a different story... don't like her at all tbh

I did Ponies and Juniors with Oli, he was always really good fun, my sister even went out with him for a bit. Whoever said he was charming is definitely right, he never had any problems with the girls...!
