Olympia. Jumping.

I'm watching Olympia, and have noticed that most of the horses back up when they're waiting to start or have finished their round! Why is that? Is it the rider asking them to go it, if so, what's the reason? :-/

yeah im pretty sure its just to get them listening and focused on the rider

Doesn't it help to get them back on their hocks for a better jump or have I just made that up?

Bit of rein back to make sure horse is listening and as you say on its hocks

Yes rein back and walk to canter gets a better canter and more on there hocks so better for jumping!
