Am trying to find out results for M&M final today. Anyone know?!!! They haven't come up on Olympia website yet. My godmother's horse was being shown there so rather interested to know!!
Farriers Fingerprint was Champion, Pumphill Buckthorn reserve. Rhoson Shem BOB for B's, Waitwith Westwind A's, Kentchurch Galaxy D's, Waxwing Rheel C's (also was 3rd), Leacarrow King Connies....and I've had a mental blank for the rest!
They quite often don't update the showing results on the Olympia website (think the showing is too boring to update *rolls eyes* and nothing on the tv either, just boring SJ)
It is a shame that only 2 Highlands qualified. I know of many Highlands who are definately Olympia standard, although it does all depend on how they behave etc on qualifier day. There are also many nice NF's out there - I know one won which is brilliant, but it is a shame that only one qualified. We watched an Olympia qualifier somewhere last year with a beautiful NF in the Championship, yet one person I was with (who knew very little about natives) said "What's that doing in the championship? Bit plain, isn't it? Supposed to be a connemara?" I'm not sure how many judges know about correct NF's and go for flashier breeds.
I know....a judge once told me to get my highland really belting along so that he could compete against the knee-high D's...because a judge might not know he was a highland and think he was a welshie without the flashy leg action
Frankly...they should know what breed they're looking at IMO.
Other than that, I have had really nice comments from judges saying it makes a change to have a highland in the class.....hopefully I didnt just end up with placings due to novelty value lol
It is the first time a forester has ever won Olympia and he was the only one who qualified as well - so it is big deal for those of us who support these lovely New Forest ponies and rather exciting too.
Also this lovely pony was ridden by his owner who breed him herself and was not ridden by a producer which I think also makes it a bit special.
My lovely forester often gets mistaken for a bad example of a welsh section D as he is bay with a blaze and has white socks.
I am a welshie person - but I love Farriers Fingerprint - a stunning NF. I know what you mean anout them getting mistaken for a bad welsh though - I had a bay NF mare with white socks and blaze and was alway's being told "she has poor movement for a welsh dear"
The owners and breeders are such lovely people, it really couldn't have happened to anyone nicer. Owned, bred, produced and shod by themselves (husband is a farrier).
Come Boxing Day, I would expect Shirley and Buster to be part of the mounted stewards team for the NF point to point. This is one top class show pony who leads a "proper" life!
