Olympic claims to fame

The horse I'm currently competing for someone is half sister to Opposition Buzz (same sire). Just hope she has the same scope has him...! :-)

My daughter had her pictures taken with Toddy and Mary, they were wonderful with her because her face looked awful having only just come out of hospital a week before after a horrible accident. I've spoken to Ian Stark on the phone (he was lovely). I used to buy my bedding of Sophie Well's mum and Sophie once schooled our bratty pony.

(really enjoying this thread)

Oh oh oh and WFP spoke to me!

Well he said excuse me because I (and a few other people) was blocking his view of the score board......

Have met WFP a few times on the x-country at Downlands Equestrian in Warminster. He's always polite and friendly. Last time was a few months ago whilst I was having a whizz round the jumps on my little Andalusian and he said "he's nice, looks like really good fun". I was really chuffed. One horse he rode was being a tit over a coffin and I said to hime afterwards that he had just ruined my day as I was going to ask him if he needed a lead over it. He laughed. (nice guy)

Also met Chris Burton there a couple of months back, he was nice too.

Also Lucinda Fredericks (not the nicest person I've ever met)????????????

Sam Griffiths (nice)

Many many moons ago Princess Anne whilst still competeing on her horse Goodwill, backed into me and stood on my foot at Tidworth Horse trials.

Chatted to Mark Todd at barbury Castle recently after being starstruck and buying his book!

Friend was at a local ODE (Wokingham) with her daughter. It was pouring, daughter had slid into a couple of fences, so mum very kindly warned next chap in to take care. He smiled & thanked her. When she mentioned she had warned him to daughter, found out she's just told Mark Todd to be careful!

On a slightly different line. I went to Greenwich & watched the xc on monday. Was sat in the stands at the coffin, when an older gentleman & lady sat next to me. We watched Mary go through, the noise was unbelievable. You could hear her all around the course be the wave of cheering that went with her. You could hear from every fence of the course the power of everyone willing her on. After she'd gone past, the chap next to me said 'they didn't cheer us like that when I did the Tokyo olympics'. He then got up & went before I could ask who he was. Any ideas on his identity?

Mine is horse ish. Chris Boardman the olympic gold medalist cyclist was still competing at the time. He only lived a couple of miles away for me. I was riding my mare along the prom when he went whizzing past on his bike. My mare spun round shot backwards, as shes always silly with bikes and just missed knocking the poor bloke off his bike. How embarrasing that would have been if we had knocked him off!!

when i was a WP - we hired a school with sowjumps in Stow and vittoria pannizon was in before us and we had a chat when we finished and then a few days later we saw her at olney grounds BS and she came up and asked me if i could do jumps for her in the warm up because she couldnt find her WP :D

also when i was a WP the yard we were on was opposite the plunkets house (WFP's parent in laws) and they turned up at our yard when we were having orrible weather and asked if they could use the indoor school to exersize their P2P's so they came over a coupe of times with some and we watche dthem have a good canter around the indoor - they were very lovely and bought nibbles for us and mulled wine :D

i have aslo read WFP's, Mary King and Pippa Funnel's auto-biographies and Zara's Biography

oooh and another one - again when i was a WP one of the owners was friends with alot of the australian eventing team and i was invited round for dinner and matt ryans ex wife was there - she was lovely and the australian team vet graham potts was there - he was so fascinating telling us all about the olympics hes been to (loads) the world games - when he was a travelling groom for WEG 2010 and he had to ask another rider to walk his horses around quarintine because he couldnt hold onto it, and how he was almost late for x-c day trot up in poland because he got locked in his hotel room and none of the staff spoke english and one passed him some toast under the door - he ended up climing out the window and just about made it on time! dinner finished at 1am the following morning and we got home at 3am - did late night yard/early morning yard - take your pick. then had to get up at 7 the following morning to start again!

ALSOOO. . . my instructor at home has lessons with Gareth Hughes and when i was a WP we were based on his yard before he moved - since i've come home he always asks after me when my instructor goes for lessons :) his daughters god father is carl hester - never met him - he didnt pop in for coffee or anything :( but i did meet his wife rebecca who owns/runs classic dressage an i once caught his horse slash (classic sandman) when he ran off!

gosh i didnt think i had any tedious claim to fames!!

I found myself standing next to Gin & Juice's owner as the xc was about to start. A really lovely gentleman, he told me all about his horse. Absolutely gutted for him. I hope the horse was none the worse for his riderless trip along the course and that his rider makes a swift recovery.

Not English riders but still at the Olympics.
I've met Edward Gall and Hans Peter Minderhoud and attended an Anky van Grunsven clinic.
From previous Olympics, had dinner with Imke Schellekens Bartels and her mum Tineke. Also Imke has ridden our Fjord. :p

Ohh! forgot to add ... got soaked with champage by Carl Hester at the FEI European Dressage Championships in Rotterdam 2011.

I used to work for Gareth Hughes' father (David) in a completely un-horse related job. Gareth is the image of his Dad.

Used to live next door to Andrew Nicholson (NZ rider) before he moved to Wiltshire his wife then (Jane), taught me dressage on my pony, my sister used to Nanny their children and I used to help out in the summer holidays on thier yard, my mum also used to adjust his Olympic Jackets as she was a fab seammistress!

I worked alongside Mary King and her family at YHL all very friendly and kind. They told us how to work the poly jump cups when they were new out and none of us could work them! I also told Zara Phillips and co to get out their lorry and dunk their feet in the dip the year we had blue tongue and they had come to the event at college, she was very kind and obliging and even dunked the dogs toes! I didn't realise it was her until the lorry park radioed up!

Listening to the XC commentary, High Kingdom is out of a Chair Lift mare - so is ours. Looked it up on all pedigrees and their mummies are half sisters. We told Bill this tonight so hopefully he will be on Olympic form soon......as soon as he can trot in a straight line!

Oh wow my mare's grandsire is Chair Lift! Shame she's useless!

kenny who was due to be ridden on the Brazilian event team (WD just before dressage) was bred out of my event mare... I brought her while he was at foot and have pictures of him as a little foal :-)

My mare has Chair Lift line too. She is a XC monster, can do nice dressage if you keep her calm, and average SJ.

My gelding has Cavalier Royale (Imperial Cavalier's sire) as a grandsire, and although he could be amazing, he much prefers not to be, and would be a happy hack/hunter given the choice!

Can I have a rowing claim to fame? Gold medalist Helen Glover (briefly!) taught PE at my school ;)

I learnt to row at Coleraine (where our 3 rowing boys are from) but I only got on the Commonwealth squad, and that was nearly 30 year ago :p

I am friends with an NZ Olympic medal winning eventer and he has ridden my horses (much to their surprise) :D

My gelding has the same sire as Imperial Cavalier, eg Cavalier Royale. Same as Honey08, he prefers the easier life but shows flashes of brilliance to keep you motivated.

God job I love him and that he's a big softie under all the bravado. I have reminded him of his reject status every time he messes about tho!
