can someone please explain the team dressage to me - 2 days and then a team finals? I thought all riders rode once and the combined scores decided but what happens on 3rd day/

Team medals are decided by the GP and GP Special. Then the top 18 (I think) go through to the freestyle which decides the individual medals.

so does everyone ride GP and then only so many go through to GP special?

Yes - only the top 7 teams as well as the top 11 individuals not part of a team go through to the GPS. Then only the top 18 riders from the Special go through to the freestyle (with a max of 3 athletes per country).
