Olympic funding

Do we need the funding as a sport ? we are pretty well off, the show jumpers ,eventers , dressage riders at the top have good owners who pay the costs for the horses etc, but when you see sports that have not performed well have the funding cut ,it is odd, if you need to improve you need the help that funding would bring.The top riders will be picked to represent the country anyway and will be at the top of the game anyway..The minor sports that are having there funding cut are all the sort that are low cost for joe public to get started in, so now the kids on the council estates are going to find it hard to get into a sport at grass routes. These kids never will get a chance in our sport with or without funding.
I am not against us being funded but I do think others are more worthy.

The owners don't pay for the training. Of course sports need funding.

We now get quite a lot of funding and although part of me thinks great another says that maybe other sports could do with the money. I would really like to know what they spend it on. I imagine a decent chunk goes on rider training but it would be interesting to see a breakdown.
