Olympic XC fallers

Just read your update TS - thanks for it - and I share your sorrow at Amistad's injury. How Michelle must feel I can't begin to imagine. As you say she can take him home.

I do hope the bad luck experienced by the Canadians is the catalyst for investment in the future and support of these athletes.

Unfortunately, this is the cycle they've invested in!! Hence having David at the helm and trying to get less experienced riders to International comps. It paid off in spades at the WEGs. :)

Unfortunately funding is target driven and while by necessity targets are always moderate, finishing is almost essential. EC will continue to do its best but all the riders also had to do an immense amount of personal fundraising. They also do not have 4* horses waiting in the wings so it's a long climb back up again.

I am desperately sad for the riders, but also for all the people who have supported them. I am also very proud of some of the lovely things that have been said about their horses and their riding.

Jessie and Tucker are class. If everyone could will the poles to stay in the cups today, that would be appreciated.

I felt so so sorry for the Canadians and the Japanese yesterday - both nations rode so well and both were just desperately unlucky. I was willing both to get a team home, and I'd have loved to see Yoshi get a bronze individual medal, would have been a bit of an Olympic dream story.

An update i picked up earlier on Camilla and Just a Jiff -

“The horse sustained some bruising to his ribs and chest during the fall. He has been under observation at the Olymic Venue
Veterinary Clinic during the night and this morning was comfortable, " he said. “He is moving to another veterinary clinic off site today for a few more days of observation just to make absolutely sure that he’s fine.”

Rider Camilla Speirs is also fine after the fall.

I have to say, the medical care for both horses and riders has been second to none.

I hope all the casualties make a full recovery.
