OLYMPICS SHOW JUMPING BOMBSHELL

Chinese Whispers of "illegal", or maybe I had better rephrase that before the Forum Police hammer me, "secret" jump training practice.

I know nothing!!!!!!!!! Probably the USA gossip mongers still peed off about not winning team gold in eventing and dressage.

Though I do work with capsaicin I don't claim to be an expert on it (though I am pretty good at getting the stuff to dissolve

).
I do think it is unlikely though that enough capsaicin could have got into the horses system just from brushing past a capsicum. As you said most of the capsaicin is in the pith which is quite deep in the capsicum and while I know that a hoof can easily crush the plant it would then have to come into contact with the skin and be absorbed in sufficient concentrations to show up on the dope test. While it could happen I think it is far more likely that it was administered to the horses deliberately (though possibly without the person responsible realising that it was a banned substance)...

I'd just be really impressed at them even finding hacking trails at ShaTin, where the DR and SJ were based. I found it really hard to even drive out of the place across and onto the highway, I can't believe for a minute they took horses across those roads........
Beas River, yes, there are hacking trails up there, that is the main livery yard in HK for the HKJC. I've ridden around them, but they're a bit scary....deranged barking dogs........horendous footing and a couple of VERY steep rock paths........deep joy on a horse just off the track who preferred to negociate it in three fly leaps.........

I have got to say, that though lacking a phd I have groomed for olympic horses, and the likelihood of several million dollars worth being taken for a quick toddle on unknown territory right before a competition is ... erm ... zero.
At a push, I'd believe it of the brits. But the GERMANS?!
If they wanted to arouse everyone's suspicions and get the competition closed down, I can't think of a better calculated move!
I should say if the Americans wanted to get them into trouble they'd have to think up something slightly more believable. Alien spacecraft, maybe?

that is probably what their secret meeting was about, who rides had been abducted by aliens and substiued with chiili secreting doplegangers.....

And was the leak at the water jump actually a leak? Or was it like PLASMA or something? Or a shapeshifting chilli secreting doppelganger?

*Aha! It was in the water, which has now seeped away and cannot be tested. Sooooooooo clever ......

Watson, did all the disqualified horses have a foot in the water? Did any of them go after the leaking water incident?

Pass me my violin ....

I'm still concerned about Harvey Smith doing that V sign. I think people move on too quickly.

See, I think you people should still be fussing about "Jungle Bunny".

Us, denizens on the New World, we move on in an instant. Eric, case in point.

Message from friend at Sha Tin : -

The German team was discovered by American grooms out "back on the hacking trails" without permission. And that reported GM was furious. Is there any other news on this...given their performance in the team jumping whatever they did out there didn't help, but it is interesting

What I'm struggling with here (and OK, yes I am being a bit saucy but there's an element of truth here!) - and I confess to having worked with dressage horses so for all I know jumpers might be different though in Germany I'm not convinced - is the notion of a German voluntarily hacking anywhere?
If indeed they did, of their own accord, abandon the confines of an all weather arena, I can see why one would be suspicious!

At the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto one year they were caught out on a piece of lawn with a jump set up! The Fair is in a huge exhibition part in the city but the outside spaces aren't in use and it's quite common for the riders to hack around the roads on site. Some have been known to gallop on the verges! (Not popular since it takes place in Nov so the ground is usually a half frozen bog!)

I think they get a "holiday" attitude when they're out and about and do things they never would at home. Either than or all the time spent in the bar starts to accumulate. . .
