so..........he's been on the omeprazole since last mon, he had mon and tues off after the clinic, so wed was D day............stretched in nicely, one rear, then nothing and when picked up (just did basic transitions) was VERY forward, to the point of rushing, unusual for him (but nice for me!!!).....thur and fri was nicely taking me forward, stayed taking me in all the lateral work and then sat ran through the changes which were spot on, so was feeling tentatively optimistic!

it MUST be doing something as he's off all his other ulcer supps to give this a fair trial and usually he would down tools completely (quite rightly) but he's he hasnt, so i really do think its helping in some way.

went to Vale BD today, AM85 and AM98..............warmed up really sweetly and we had NO antics all day, not even a thought of antics, in fact barely a tail swish to report! hurrah! the trot in the warm up was 99% as it is at home, frustratingly it was my back holding us back (literally) a bit :( but had the brain wave when i got home (better late than never) of doing 5mins work minus stirrups in the warm up to force my pelvis to *give* which is what HAS to happen for me to be able to relax totally, not a nice sensation but has to be done.....so will try that at next show.

85 was a sweet test, not breathtaking but all very neat and settled, even if he did drop back a touch in the trot work.

92 he upped his game in the trot clever lad but then we both made a few boo boo's.....he threw a random change in to the first medium canter and went a bit tight in the changes on the serpentine, which was costly and then muppet here went wrong on the final centre line! merrily cantered down and stopped, no medium trot, oopsy! so a -2 for that!

65.59% for 85 and 62.63% for 92, second out of 4 and second out of 3, so small classes but im thrilled, really feel we are making steps forward now, and if i can get the trot as forward as the canter, he will jump up the marks by quite a way, so lots of work minus stirrups and lots of shoving and pushing my pelvis in to shape (i do see a chiro but sometimes it just needs a good crack before i get on!)

now Q-please can people suggest exercises for developing the bend in the HP, canter is better than trot, trot he can bobble a bit against the contact in the ring.

sorry pics are in an odd order......photobucket is driving me mad!

Yay that sounds really good!!! And he looks stunning as usual, I'm sure the ompeprazole does some good as my mare has gone from rossdales to home, out 24/7 to in at night with no grass in the day with (touches wood frantically) in the last week only the maintenance dose!!! Hope it keeps working!!

His facial expression looks completely different to me, he looks like he is enjoying himself, and wants to be there imo.

Well done :D Finger crossed it continues! x

Well done!!! Glad he's making an improvement! Looks lovely and relaxed in the pics :) What make is your saddlecloth? Looks lovely and after a new one for the ponies :)

Super - he's looking great and much more relaxed. I'm glad you think the omeprazpole is working. I certainly noticed a difference after a couple of days.

Bloss is now having the 1 sachet half an hr before riding just poured on top of a small mix of sugar beet/chaff as I want to get the best results from it.

(sorry on mobile!) ... Shoulder in and travers on the diagonal. Then travers into counter canter and then leg yield across the diagonal. I find all those sorts of exercises improve the quality of the canter and suppleness through the body.

Sorry I don't normally post on your threads but always admire the photos :p :D

I have to say he is looking much more relaxed - so glad you are seeing an improvement. :)

Onwards and upwards!

I had my spies at VV today who said you went very well!

on an aside (not coming on here much) I wondered where I'd heard about omeprazole before, til I cleared out my medicine cabinet and found a huge box I bought in Spain for over-indulgence of alcohol and food.......

is it worth anything......?;)

thanks all, he felt very happy go lucky today, if a little in his own world at times lol!

HHM-imagine its people stuff? so prob not black market worthy sadly!!!!!

Tempi-am doing lots of counter canter leg yield and travers and renvers (on straight and circle) and have just read an exercise about starting in walk and then going renvers or travers in canter (direct from it in walk) so will give that a shot too, thanks :)

oh, saddlecloth is joshua jones, it might be too long for yours though, its much bigger than any of my others (only one my dead sheep doesnt swamp, would be too big on fig).xxx

Really interesting if his behaviour today has been affected by the Omperazole so quickly. As have been told this is one that takes a while to get into the system and be effective. Had some issues with Pig and put her on Regumate and said I thought there was an improvement but was told to early to tell with this too, maybe it isn't?

Is VV the arena where he is happier anyway, or has he had issues there in the past - sorry should remember but can't as though I read about them not familiar with these venues?

Hope it is the Omp and you have a solution, as it is frustrating when you put so much work in to have issues when you go out to a party - good luck :)

I think he looks very relaxed in most of those- a happy horse.

Also, on an observation note, I was looking at your curb rein/bit. It's funny, someone on the last thread had mentioned that it was often at a reasonable steep angle, as though it were being used quite significantly, but on closer inspection I think it must just sit at an angle, because even when there is a loop in that rein it is still angled?!

Do ignore me if the above is waffling- well done.

Wonderful news, well done!!! Hope you've found a permanent solution to his occassional 'moment'!

Re the curb I was once told off for having my curb strap too loose which made the curb sit at an angle even if not used at all on loopy reins. Don't know if that helps as I really don't understand doubles!

I agree with whoever said his gave looks happier! He really does look like a different horse!

My experience with Gastrogard (so assume omeprazole would give similar results and timescales) is that three days is the magic turning point.

Arandom observation is that more padding on headpeice. Isay that as I hate rolled bridles since my stallion went very difficult in on and I found he could not stand the pressure of the buckles on top of his head.

Yep - what she says ^.

Also counter canter with incorrect bend....odd, but it works.

yes, he does seem to prefer the dead ferret pad on his head, even though the leather pad he had before was nicely squishy???????he's always gone nicely in the rolled bridle but perhaps has now decided he just wants more dead animals on his being?! (diva in training called it a dead meerkat yesterday, made me howl!!!!!)

curb-dunno, it annoys me that its stays at an angle no matter what the rein tension is, no idea how to stop it????it doesnt seem to bother him and its def the curb he prefers but it does bug me too!
booboos-have taken the chain up 1 hole but he doesnt need/want it any tighter, bums.

I think he looks happy with himself in those pics :)

I just had a thought re the curb, as I know one of Frank's bridles is chunkier than the other and the ring on the curb isn't really big enough for the width of the cheek piece so it doesn't move freely and has a tendency to get stuck. I suspect that isn't the case with yours/you'd have spotted it but thought it worth a mention.

I ride a forward SI & Traver with very exaggerated neck bend in trot & canter. Then I'm able to release the exaggerated bend & ride HP without issue. My horse has a tendency to hold himself so I have to exaggerate things to get him properly swinging through the back. He's always been the same but now I've found the tricks it's much better.

thanks, will try those DC.

Trouble-there was definately more desire to GO than there has been for weeks, so hoping it continues when im back on board this week, will let you know :)
