omeprazole

its illegal to import it....end of!....

whether you choose to feed it to your horse is upto you.....i did and i also imported it in small quantities.... its not, however illegal for the states to export it.... the blame lies with us who import

you would need a rediculous amount of human stuff to equivalence for horses....hence why omaprazole from the USA is imported... cheaper and the right dose...

gastrogard has the licence for it.......hence why is stupidly expensive as they are the only ones that are legally allowed to sell the equine version.

It is not exported from the States full stop as they are not allowed to and it is not available there without a prescription!Heres the relevant bit hidden on the website.

Customs: Abler dispatches your order from either

Vanuatu, South Pacific (near Australia)
Seychelles, Indian Ocean (near South Africa)
India

never realised that - did have seychelles on the packet but tbh very stupidly thought nothing of it (only occured to me having this thread)!

knowing that im not actually sure i would touch the stuff.... what is in it!?..... :/

Just caught up with the rest of thread I am afraid CPT you are mistaken ,only one form of omeprazole is licensed OTC(cost nealy£1/tab as oposed to 10p tab for the prescription) for humans ,All other forms are prescription only .The stuff on ebay is sold from India or the far east and is not permitted to be imported into the UK but because the system is bombarded by the product some gets through.
Also you state that self prescribing is OK however it is not harmless and has some nasty side effects if fed over an extended period (months) these side effects include physical and mental! You have to ask yourself if indeed it is harmless why do you need a script for it.
Just to clarify as well although a lot of people buy from Abler believing they are american the product is manufactured and shipped from India .Omeprazole is just as illegal to import into the States as here and is prescription only there

OK thanks for that update. I am surprised that eBay list it if it's illegal to sell it in the UK.

Regarding why it is still prescription only, the answer to that is simple - is to allow Merck to recoup their testing costs.

Their license on the human version has expired and Omeprazole is considered safe enough to be an over the counter medication in humans.

It's about 50% more expensive to buy the human stuff, but perfectly possible, though it seems maybe illegal.

The real problem is the outrageous cost of the licensed version.

Agreed. It's not meant for long term use.

Try Egusin SLH.

Thanks, I'll look at that if Ineed something with the spring diet changes, but I've never used it long term any way.

Merial do market a maintenance dose version for long term use though, just a lower dose than the treatment dose.

For TEN dollars a day!!!! No wonder people take the risk of illegal importation.
