OMFG - he has pulled out the greyhound???!!!!

Nice group winner, amazed he restrained himself and only put the whippet group 2, and as for that greyhound..... words fail me.....

Oops very sorry MM I didn’t realise it was on TV! So many fat hounds generally... and why oh why do they breed show greyhounds with such over angulated hind legs and ridiculous long necks....

I liked both the pharaoh hound and the ridgeback a lot, and even the whippet was ok (but far too young to be BOB!) 😄

Oh and sorry yes I liked the PBGV too 😊😊

What has age got to do with the quality of the dog?
Either it is a well put together well moving dog or it isnt!

A dog that wins a challenge certificate is deemed to be worthy of the title of champion in the eyes of the judge, and is the closest to the breed standard on that particular day. An immature dog is unlikely to be the best example of the breed present at a show on any particular day, especially when there were multiple CC winning dogs present who are fully mature and likely to be closer to the breed standard.

Sorry but I disagree. It is completely possible for youngsters to be better example of the breed than fully mature animals

I show horses and have seen foals take supreme of show over fully mature ridden horses. They deserved it as the foal whilst immature was a beautiful example of its breed

For me showing is the promotion of breeding animals. In my own system a baby could never take top honours because it's not physically or mentally mature. Too right.
I have huge issues with the handing of top honours to dogs in the puppy and junior classes. I've seen dogs go BoB at six months out of minor puppy go on to attain high honours. I've also seen some super puppies grow into coarse donkeys...or worse, they develop or transmit heritable temperament or health issues when used for breeding, which of course they are when there is such hype around them as youngsters.

Oh and I also have issues with baby puppy classes which culminate in best baby puppy in show, and Junior Champion titles which can be seen at a lot of FCI shows. It smacks of a prize for everyone in the audience at the expense of young animals, in an attempt to stem dwindling show entries. End rant lol.

Yep as CC says.... ‘lovely’ puppies can often grow into coarse overdone over exaggerated examples of the dog breeds I’m familiar with, I’ve seen it quite a lot over the past 30 years

Showing is nothing about the improvement of any breed though, is it? Working certificates do that.
Did you all see the Dogue de Bordeaux? It was bordering, in my very limited opinion, on brachycephalic . They didn't used to look like wizened monkeys?

Ooooo look this came up on FB today from my rant last year :p My greyhound v last year's BOB winner...... nuff said......perhaps I'll just go on holiday when Crufts is on next year : :D 29027375_10156868719594587_154032662699311104_n.jpg29103373_10156868715074587_6557566577317773312_o.jpg

I’m not a grey hound person, infact it is one of the few breeds you could not pay me to have, however I’d far rather look at the show one than yours, sorry.

Oh dear.... that has just made me lol :D:D:D No need to be sorry, not everyone has an eye for a decent dog :)
Personally it’s less to do with how the dog is built and more to do with the fact I hate the underweight and permanently miserable/terrified look that most grey hounds sport

We had a retired one here, years ago, she was lovely but a little independantly minded. (To be kind).

Haha, yes I have been reliably informed of this before, which is why I have resisted one....so far...

Can't be much worse than my westie surely??! I am really very good at having two doggy fingers stuck up at me as they trot in the other direction leaving me stood in my dressing gown and slippers in the doorway 😁

Well I've done both, a dog can work all day but I do also want it to look like the breed it's supposed to be/not stuck together :p
