I wonder if the reason the Bots are making a comeback is in part due to people worm counting and not always needing to worm. We always used to use Ivermectin early winter specifically to target bots.

"Veterinary guidance is to target them with a single treatment, waiting until after the first frost of the winter which will kill bot flies and ensure no more reinfection. Ivermectin and moxidectin are both effective chemicals and you could choose to combine this with your winter worming dose against encysted redworm."

We are inundated with bot flies here (Scandinavia), they do look similar to warble flies (I remember them from childhood in the UK). What the OP describes is to me 100% bot flies, that’s what we see daily and they don’t have warble flies here.

I accidentally stumbled on a really effective method of killing them, I sprayed one with phaser power spray, out of frustration and it dropped straight to the ground incapacitated and gave me sufficient time to squash it with my foot.

I just went up to feed the oldie her lunch and found Brads running around and sweaty. Managed to get hold of him and noticed what I now know is a Warble fly with its tail bent round towards him. I sprayed it with fly spray as it wasn’t landing for me to swat it. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one before.

It was a bot and they don't land, just spray their eggs as soon as they get close enough. Their 'tail' is what they spray eggs through. They can't bite or sting so safe to grab one in your hand.
