On todays exploration of horsemart, I came across this:

At least they say it's for one little pony, not like some 3.5t sheds on wheels, which can apparently take 2x17.2hh!!!!

Just wondering is there such a thing as a 3.5 T that CAN fit a 17.2 hh horse? I looked at them before but my girl would really need the head height and I never found one that I thought she would be comfortable in.

It never fails to surprise me when people start putting values ob things on this forum - apparently you can get perfectly good horses for less than £1000 you can get school masters proven in the showring and dressage affiliated for less than £3000 and now you can buy a pony box for less than the price of a trailer!
Next time i'm shopping i'll let someone on here buy for me, infact if someone can get me county standard new forest over 14h in any colour i'll get my £1000 ready not bothered if its young as long as its bombproof

qr, i think your right they have just attached a ramp to the van & put in a partition at the front & blocks at the sides. Hope they have reinforced the floor!!.

i reckon it's probs safer for a wee pone inthat than getting thrown about in the back of a full size trailer with breech and chest bars too high.

Hear Hear!

*but if you find a bombproof county standard NF I don't actually want one!*

I was just having a little rant, the values of things on this forum are ridiculous. If the box is safe which we can only assume it is, they have advertised it correctly whether its to our tastes or not why would we insult the sellers by assuming its scrap value??
Same goes when anyone asks about values of their beloved ponies, I asked once then quickly realised that most have absolutely no idea

It is an LDV- not popular, it can carry only one pony so it has a limited market, and it has done 147k. I sold a j reg LDV 2 years ago with a lovely pony box on it, old but purpose built ( not a convertion ) and in good condition, box could have done with being put on a newer cab. It was taxed and tested. I had to let it go for £1000 because that was the most I was offered. Therefore, I think this is worth no more than £1000, current climate considered.

3.5tonne vehicles are extremely sort after and are often more than 7.5tonne wagons, this is obviously because you can drive on any licence, also not all of us have horses on occasion we have a child with a pony that like to go out and about showing.
Sounds like you gave yours away marmalade, and i dont deal in scrap so wouldnt know the value i was speaking hyperthetically

Not much different to the other van type boxes you see. Only difference is they can take 2 with lowered floor. TBH id rather travel my pony in this than some of the trailers i've seen going about with much larger horses.

Assuming the floor is sound I bet it would be such a handy wee van and ace to run.

Not so sure about the sliding door tho....think id be inclined to keep that locked!

We had it built to our spec and my loan horse is 17.2hh and fits in there no problem and travles quite happily.

QR and totally OT.

Ladies, the word is 'sought' NOT 'sort'

Yes, our coach-built 3.5T will take a 17.2hh. The headroom is 7ft 6 which is higher than the Ifor HB510 and 511.

Many people still think of a 3.5t as the older style Ford Transit, 3.5T have come a long way in the last few years.

The amount and size of horses a box can carry has more to do with weight. You have to be careful not to over-load. There are some 7.5 ton boxes that cannot legally carry the amount of horses they are stalled for.

Maramalade76,
I totally agree , we have a 3.5T with a 1.4T payload so they will take 1X17.2hh horse without any problems with height, width, weight and axle weight distribution. In fact, only a little less payload than some 7.5Ts on the road.

Prices are low though at the mo who ever said prices are ridiculous.

I just sold my 7.5tonne lorry with living that could carry two 16h2s and still be easily under weight. Yes old but reliable with good engine I in the end had to sell for only £700 as had to sell before plate expired, so that prob lost me £500ish but it was sound and worthy and the guy who bought it (unseen off ebay!) in the end is chuffed to bits and thinks he has a bargin but none of the 50+ other people watching it would bid above him!!!!
