Jean Teulere and Espoir de la Mare, the most experienced member of the French Eventing team announced yesterday that he had to withdraw due to a fetlock sprain suffered by Espoir while doing a gallop on Sha Tin race track last Sunday

Hope Espoir recovers quickly...

Just heard interview of JT. He's upset but said " You learn to be fatalistic when working with horses"

"All those selected to the Team know that they are not actually in the Olympics until they trot down the center line in Hong Kong during their dressage test. Until that moment anything can happen." wrote Greg Tryon, July 24 in Team Tryon Blog.

JT has had a rough couple of years. Good Luck to him in the future. This withdrawal certainly weakens the French Team. JT was my favorite for individual Gold.

I know granfan, he's the most talented (yet laziest !) dude...
The guy can do grand prix SJ or St Georges dressage or whatever...

Andrew (Nicholson) once said to son (his working pupil and groom at the time) that in his opinion, Jean was THE most amazingly talented rider he knew...

What a shame

dont worry francophiles, you still got that Nicholas touzaint person, he is quite talented i think isnt he......?

He certainly is Lu, but Jean is a bit of a case:
1. massive experience
2. a genius, only he's totally unambitious and lazy (first big win, individual gold Jerez WEG 2002) although he's been on the circuit for 25 years...
3. Basically pure talent without much else if you see what I mean...
4. Ok, I have a soft spot for the guy... (Remember the pic I posted in your thread on SJers vs Eventers ?)

Nico has it all: The talent, the connections: fell into it ever since he could walk, and the hard work, fighting spirit, etc... Logically, success came early.
I certainly wish him the best !

I like Eric Vigeanel and Didier Dhenin a lot too (Didier was son's trainer, he's a great guy !)

Still... So sad for Jean

flo i have never forgiven that horse for keeping me and everyone else awake all night every night at saumur a few tyears ago with its constant door kicking. i didnt know which one it was at first but by the second or third night i was ready to kill it so i went to look for the culprit. obviously i let the creature live but only because i agree with much of what you say and i am sorry for him.

Lu and Blackeventer: think of the affect on Nico. He just lost Mme. Girard-Claudon and now has the Team + Uncle Thierry, and his reputation, on his back + France.

He does not look too good in the set of pix on FFE today. Ref: riding Galan indoors. Working himself into illness? Too thin; too tense.

We all admire his cool preformances and I marvel at the emotion he holds under control. I hope he gets through in one piece. He is my true love of all the marvelous eventers.

Lu, you got it right: let the creature live. They need a party! It has been reported on several blogs that the tension is high when they all work the same carriere.

Crack the ice pour the G & T. Lord knows they have enough in common and could talk for ever. One of my favorite pixs of last year was Nico dancing w Daisy while dressed as a WILD man with a dog biscuit attached to his head. And his black make up all over her white gloves.
