OMG aren't bot fles awful and some advice please?

Boys happy in field when got to yard. Got Sunny in first and then went back to get Pidge. He was walking up and down fence line then started trotting up and down fence line. Very strange! got to gate and could big insect near his willy. Pidge wouldn't let me catch him as by this stage he had started cantering round the field. finally managed to catch him and got carted back up the field as fly still pestering him. Had to yell friend on yard to come and help with gate and Pidge. She managed to get him to stand still and I managed to swat and then kill the bot fly. He had about 8 eggs on each side of him

So advice please, I cover Pidge in fly spray anyway but is it worth putting his fly rug back on or not? Am worried in case the bot fly could get stuck under his rug?
It really upset me seeing him so distressed over this fly

Bot flies are godforsaken things. Unfortunately they tend to aim for the legs, so not sure that a fly rug would stop them. They are around usually for about a month, might be worth considering bringing your boy in during the day while they are around if he gets really bothered by them?

And a quick tip. If you get the bot fly wet from water, fly spray or whatever they drop to the ground and are easily squashed then... I hate the poxy things.
 
They are horrible!!! My boy seems to suffer especially from them (although not too badly this year!) they do tend to lay eggs on the legs though, but they also seem to lay them in my boys main, which is a real pain, as he has such a long main!
 
Fly spray is useless as they never actually land on the horse so all you can do is use a white summer sheet to confuse them. They hone in on dark warm shapes which is why a lot of the greys dont seem to get so bothered by them.

Rosie and Inks my shettie are terrified of them. Rosie jumps out of the field and Inka runs up and down madly until he's dripping in sweat.

Strangely, my youngster isn't at all bothered by them, so she's covered in eggs but the other 2 aren't too bad.

Does anyone here use the Net Tex Bot Egg Remover? I've heard from one person that the eggs aren't any easier to remove with this stuff than they are just being scraped with a knife?
