OMG,.. devastated...

Get him home, we take horses for backing and problem horses and we ask for the owners not to come down for a few days so we can get to know the horses and for them to get on with there work.

My yard owner is very good with young horses, especially nervous ones. Very quiet, calm and patient. We are in Bucks but may not be too far depending where in berks you are, and she does go out to people, if you can trust him with anyone else in the future.

How awful for you! My stallion is away at the moment, and I am lucky to have found a really good chap who has been great, and very patient. I have also been very welcome any time I have been up - I was up every day for the first few days, then backed off as my boy settled in. At the end of the day if you are paying someone for a service, then why shouldn't you be able to go and watch - I had my boy lunging in tack before he went, but let Keith lunge on his own the first day - I know what its like having an owner breathing down your neck when you have never seen the horse work before! I have been up to watch regularly throughout his time there, and just love sitting on the sidelines and seeing my horse move (I am itching to get on though!!)
Don't despair - if you can't find someone to help you at home, there are some really good people out there - just go with reccommendations from people you trust, and remember that the cheap ones are probably cheap for a reason!!
Good luck with your boy

MY 3 year old went to kerilli last year for 2 weeks she did an amazing job with prince, and i went every day to see how he was doing and watching her working prince, she had no problem what so ever with me being there.

Bring him home asap.

I'd be suspicious of any place that didn't want the owners to visit for a few days.

Speaking from being in the business, so would I!

Me too - when I was managing yards, owners could turn up anytime, without notice.

I should of explained better they can come when they want to see the horse without notice but just to give a few days for the horse to settle in. Alot of problem horses come and alot of the horses problems are the owners.

Get him out, it seems that the yard is always quiet so just go and get him, i would'nt pay, or just leave a letter with a cheque to cover just basic livery if you think you should pay them, when a horse is in a good place your see a massive difference in just a few days, my horse went from just the basics to working on the bit and looking like a different horse in just over a week.

PM me, whereabouts is he? I am in your area...I think I may know where he is.........in which case dont waste your horse or your money...I could however be totally wrong!!

thanks again everyone. i do now have a degree in hindsight, as we all do....

Can i make it clear this yard was NOT any suggested on this forum the ones suggested on here were too busy (now i know why this one wasn't!!)

i will let you know how he settles back at home, and if anyone knows any experienced people near Reading, who are insured and would come to me, please let me know.
