I'm sorry I still don't see why they are obliged to breed them in the first place. They do it because they want to make loads of money, so they should put some of that money into re-training the ones that can have useful lives (of course I agree that dangerous horses should be PTS, but surely these kinds of numbers, thousands of horses every year, can't all be dangerous - and if they are then, clearly don't breed them!!!).
A lot of people seem to be accepting that it is OK to breed irresponsibly and just ask what should happen next, but why is it OK in the first place. Suppose I took it into my head to breed a few hundred dogs a year, every year, looking for the 'perfect' one, would it then be OK to put them to sleep on the grounds that I couldn't find good homes for them? Breeders have responsibilities, they brought the animal to the world, they have to breed responsibly.
