Right i am in a total panic!!!! Recently had a dressagr and jumping saddle made and put my lovely Albion in 2nd hand at out local tack shop. Couple of weeks ago i got it out again as still not selling put it back in our tackroom to decide where to sell it. It's there sunday evening, stacked on top of my dr saddle as i only have 2 racks. I didn't ride monday, friend rode 1 of my horses in my jumping saddle which is next to it and 'thinks' it was there but wasn't looking for it so not 100%. Last night i rode and it's gone...right don't panic someone has moved it by accident. YO q's everyone today...no one has seen it/moved it/seen anything!!!!!! Nothing else is missing, some other VERY expensive saddle still there, tack room locked when yard unattended, lock not broken no damage, no windows!!!!!

We had a livery leave on Monday who fell out with everyone...surely she wouldn't have taken it. She doesn't like us but YO's daughter has taught her for years....she left when no1 els on yard but i just don't belive she'd take it...and why that saddle??!! Wouldnt fit her horse...she had a mare and foal at yard and didn't keep anything in there anyway!!!!

So what do i do???? Report it stolen even though no damage or evidence except its gone??!! Ask women if she took it...obviously she wouldnt tell me anyway. Not insured and it's not marked....more bloody fool me.

Sorry about rant but i'm so upset and just do not know what to do!!!!!!!

Oh dear - I'd be in panic mode too. Stupid question but it's not been moved to another sadddle rack by any strange chance?
If not and it's really gone I don't know how you would stand with your insurance? Do you know where other girl moved to? You can't really accuse her like you said but maybe go up to her new yard and have a look round. Sorry I can't offer any more help. Hope you manage to find/locate it

Are you really sure its not there and you didn't move it somewhere and forget. I know its hardly the same but I've lost my feed scoop at the moment. I even started peering into other people's feed rooms to see if they'd taken it but I'm sure they haven't. Its got to be there somewhere, I just can't find it at the mo despite the fact that I always leave it in the feed bin

Thanks...i have been through all the saddles in the tack room about 20 time. i though i was going mad so i went back so many time to check....

We do know where she's gone but its just so hard to believe and i dont know how i can sneek about....i guess i may have to try. I dont have tack insurance and checked my horses policies and its not covered under that. Even if it was i dont think i could claim as no damage/evidence.

i know dwi i thought that too. i cant tell you how many times i have searched the yard....i know i havent used it since i bought it home and it was def on top of my dr saddle sunday night. I picked every saddle in there up so so many time to check!!!

There is a distinct possibility she did take it...however be waste of time approaching her as she is not going to admit to it,police wont get involved as you have no evidence that she took it!!
I hope things work out ok and it turns up,but sadly you answered ya own question...no insurance etc

Good luck and i do hope it turns up

thanks...i wasn't expecting anyone to have an answer for me i just needed some kind words so i appreciate it..
having a very large glass of wine to brace myself for telling OH when he gets in. He will be furious!!!

Oooh,maybe have 2

I guess you could arrange a viewing at the yard she has gone to and have a damn good look over the tack room, ask questions about yard whilst you are in there, but could you prove it was your saddle???that would be the problem!!
As i said am sorry for you,i would be gutted, good luck with hubby but sure he will understand, afterall it was something you never expected to happen...as some of us probably never think about it either
frown.gif
,just shows that we should thow eh)!!

I know but i have no proof it was taken, no way of proving it was mine i suppose and surely if the police contact her she'll just 1.say no and 2. go mental that i accused her......not that thats my priority!!!

Argh!!!

Bad luck, hope the OH is supportive. I would suspect the girl who left and pay her a visit. Walk straight into her tack room and say its you or the Police. What a nerve, poor you.

thats what i was hoping but have talked to everyone. We're only a small yard where everyone (except 1 who just left) is friends. Only 4 other owners, me and YO (who i've known for years and whos daughter is 1 of my best friends).

well if it wasn't taken, then where is it? you know where it was and it's not there now, someone took it or it grew legs. that sounds flippant, sorry, not meant to be. i just mean it must have been taken.
firstly i would speak to yo and other liveries and tell them that you don't suspect any of them in the slightest but to claim on your insurance, you have to phone the police. if your tacks not insured and they know this, tell them you are trying to claim on your home insurance.
report it to the police, let them know any distinguishing marks, i have a tiny repair to mine and know where the marks are on the stirrup leathers ie hole 10.
when they pay her a visit, they will want to see the tack room. they won't just accept her denial. they also won't say that you suspect her, just that they are making enquiries and it is standard procedure.
how much is it worth?

iot's worth about £550/£600 i think. It's not insured and not covered under my home insurance...checked that tonight. I know it must be bloody somewhere and it's nowhere on yard.

as i said above i know and am friends with all of the liveries. i think i may have to phone the police in the morning. But won't they care that there is no damage evidence etc?

I would definitely be thinking that the lady that left took it. Doesn't matter if it doesn't fit her horse, she could sell it. Have you had a look on ebay?? Set up a favourite search for albion saddle and they will send you emails everytime one is listed.
link to Albion Saddles on ebay

If the Police know that someone who had access to your saddle has left recently on bad terms then they have enough evidence to question her IMO.

Good luck!

Check your household insurance under personal belongings, sometimes you can claim under that heading.I contacted my home insurance to put saddle on insurance and they said it was already covered under personal belongings as I had items up to and including £1000.Good luck

I think cellie could be right re your contents insurance. I think it could be classed as sports equipment or under the personal items. They should be covered the same as a camera or golf clubs maybe?? Worth checking anyway.

I would defo report it to police, tell them about your suspicions regarding the livery who left, they will use it as a lead.
They will then have to question her and if she hasn't done anything wrong then she doesn't need to worry.
...who knows it may mysteriously appear soon after!
