My rubber matting finally came today, so me and dad took it to the yard to put it down.
And OMG! I did not expect it to be that heavy, I tried to pick one up, and failed miserably.
Its 17mm and 3foot x 3 foot but they were all wrapped up in pairs.
Good job my dad was free to give me a hand.

Yeah, it is heavy stuff!

My mats are 6ft x 4ft and 17mm - you'll be glad they are heavy though as the light ones move about loads!

I know. Awful aren't they. I laid 6 down all by myself at the last yard I was at. Bloke delivering them dumped them in the car park and legged it (what a Gent, eh?!)

I ended up rolling each one up (no mean feat in itself, on your own, when your a 5'1" weakling!), looping a lunge rein around the middle of the rolled mat and dragging it, with the lunge rein over my shoulder, across the car park to my stable. Boy it was hard work. Still cannot belive I actually managed to lay them in by myself, albeit not the neatest job in the world.

When I left that yard, my OH went up on his own (he's 6' and built like a brick s*it house) and loaded the mats into my old horse trailer to store them. That was a year ago. A few weeks ago I decided to bite the bullet, unload them and lay them at the new yard. OMG. Either they've gotten considerably heavier whilst in storage or I've gotten a lot weaker! I couldn't even roll them up to get the rope around them. Pathetic! Thank goodness another livery (and her husband) saw me struggling and took pity. Between the 3 of us, we had them out and in within 20 minutes. Bliss

For my other stable I've just bought Comfort Mats from Mole Avon. They're great! Each one is light enough for me to carry on my own. From what I gather they are sold for cattle to rest on, so may not last as long as the heavy weight horse mats, but heck - who cares?!!! Next time I know what I'm investing in

I can totally empathise, I like to think as a capable and not weak woman I can handle most things but my old rubber mats nearly got the better of me!

In the end I sold them and bought Quatro cow mats instead, much lighter yet just as tough!

They're a bloody nightmare, aren't they?!!! I had to do all of mine myself (another 5" nothing weakling) and the only way I could move them was rolled up and just lifting one side half a foot further, then the other side. Took ages to do four stables!!! Cutting into them with a stanley knife is not fun either!

Yeah, but think of the great workout we got doing it!!! What made me laugh was when I got in from doing mine (absolutely knackered) and my OH said, "Oh, aren't you going to the gym tonight?" God, I almost socked him one

Zoeshiloh: I'll have to get back to you on that as my OH did the sticking down bit. (AFTER I'd struggled on my own, the week before, to unload the poxy things and lay them

) I'll ask him tomorrow what he used to stick them to the concrete floor. I know he used a black silicone for sealing the upper edges but don't know what was used for sticking them down. I'll PM you tomorrow.
