Some people came to see one of my miniature mares yesterday and asked all the right questions and seemed like nice people, they already have 2 donkeys( I never sell a horse if it will end up alone).
This morning at 8.30 they rang again to ask me if I had signed the bit on her passport that says she can be "butchered" or not. Well obviously I signed the "No Butcher". The guy says agghhhhhhhh what a shame! what will I do If she breaks a leg or something:eek::eek::eek: I said you pay €12 a year for death insurance but don't worry as the horse is no longer for sale.:mad::mad:
Can you believe it??? they haven't even bought her and already they are thinking of butchering her.
minime falls on the floor in shock:eek::eek::eek: someone give me mouth to mouth :eek:

Mmm, but if you have sighned it that means she can't go to an abatoire does'nt it? I would agree he is just being practical.

Fills you with confidence, doesn't it.?:(........... Always look on the bright side of life.............................................

Jeeso! I wouldn't even have known how to respond to that! Would think they were joking! Were they being deadly serious? I mean even if they were, you wouldn't think they would be daft enough to say to the current owner!

Exactly Nakita! I was so shocked.
I breed them, grow them, feed them, clean them, care for them and above all I LOVE THEM.
What an idiot.
This is my angel that is now NOT FOR SALE

I am obviosly reading this the wrong way, why would he have been "the meat man"?? Like i said just being practical i would think.

Aw, she's lovely! Post her to me, what a dear little thing.

Just to divert the discussion slightly, can you explain "death insurance" for £12 a year? That's cheap and I'm rather interested. I know it's a sad subject, but the cost of pts is so high, that caught my attention.

I live in Italy and I am a member of the Breeders Ass. here, they offer an insurance to all members at €10 for the yearly subscription and €2.50 per horse to insure. They will cover all costs of the collection and cremation of the animal. This covers cows, horses and donkeys.
It is about the only good thing in this country as far as animals are concerned.

When you go to buy a horse do you think of how much money you will get for it from the knackers yard when it breaks a leg or do you have visions of growing old with you trusty new friend????

One of the considerations when we decided to move here was the access for the equine crematorium (or knackerman as it was in those days).
We have been looking very critically at some stables that a non-horsey neighbour has had built to sell their house, because you could not get a wagon near enough to remove a body from the stables unless you knocked down a wall.
IMO it is better to be practical and organise for possible disasters before they happen.

yes, yes, yes, I understand but to not buy a mini ( I mean for god sake how much do you think you will get in meat value,?? she weighs less the 100kg) only because she can not be butchered goes beyond! Go and buy a bl... cow atleast they will be able to eat it themselves if they get hungry.
Practical or not I do not like these kind of things.

Why could'nt they eat the pony, is it very old, and tough

Ok, i am winding you up now sorry, :D

Good job I scrolled down as I was about to punch your lights out, well virtually anyway.
I know I go on a bit but I love my babies to death and I really don't want to sell them anyway but the situation has got out of hand and I am finding it hard with the cold weather. I have kids (Human ones) that need their mummy but she is always down the stables!!!
