Now please don't laugh because I am really nervous about this, I am 37 years old and have ridden for 30 years and I've never been to a show

but the new yard I'm going to is hacking distance from an agricultural college that is doing a dressage show and George and I will be doing........now don't laugh please.......the walk and trot dressage test! It isn't till Nov but I think I'd better start practising the test and mane plaiting now!

I would never laugh- I am hoping to do some walt and trot tests with my 4 year old- I dont think anyone would laugh! I think its great your getting out!1 Good luck and lots of pics please!!! xx

DONT FEEL EMBARRASSED ABOUT HOW YOU FEEL, noone is laughing and BLOOMING WELL DONE TO YOU. I have ridden for 24 years, I am 31 years of age and was terrified at my first little yard show last December, I have since done 3 shows this year, yes only 3 on my new boy, and until the last one, feel physically sick until the first class is out of the way. Get past that bit of the morning and I promise you faithfully you will be on such an enormous high you wont want to wait til the next show. You will LOVE it and remember it is meant to be fun and a rosette is a bonus. I have 2 more I am being pushed to enter in November and highly recommend it. PLEASE PLEASE TELL US ALL ABOUT HOW YOU GET ON. GOOD LUCK and practice practice practice but what will be will be on the day - regardless of what level it is, its still a test and its everthing else that goes with it, prep, travel, new people more horses so dont apologise for being nervous.

What excellent news - time you and George got out a bit

Do you have anyone to help you practise the test? The most important thing is to enjoy it, relax and above all ... smile at the judge

Take time to work on your accuracy - a 20m circle looks easier than it is. Remember to use your corners, work on centre line straightness and a good square halt.

Cant wait for a full report

YAY.... go you hunny....... Ru says yay too and that you shouldn't be worried either, as she survived her dressage debut doing a WT test last weekend.
I look forward to hearing all about it.

whoo hooo Go George!

Excellent I will be there too as its the Riding Club I belong to. You will be fine and everyone is really friendly. I normally write for the Nov Show so I might get to see you. I started on the walk trot test with my youngster there.

Well done. I am hoping to do my first show next year. I am too much of a coward to start this year so well done to you and I hope you and George enjoy yourselves!

Good for you! I'm sure you'll be fine, I get really nervous before shows too. I'm aiming to do a walk and trot dressage test with Fudge next spring, hopefully he'll be more constistant by then. Good luck and don't forget to tell us all about it.

I have printed out the test, and my instructor is going to help me with it. I have talked OH into coming as groom, I will be hacking there so need someone to bring supplies etc. in the car.

Ship, when you see an eejit on a big chestnut horse with dodgy plaits both of whom will probably have eyes out on stalks you will know it is us!

I will be able to hack to the venue a few times before the day so hopefully George won't be too excited, but I feel his bomb proofness may be a bit iffy that day!

Dontr be daft you will be fine Its really friendly and they try to accomadate everyone and will make you at ease. You will not look like an eejit. Good luck with the practice and I will see you hopefully in Nov. I am competing at the oct one so you wont see me looking daft. A few people hack so you wont be the only one but a few practice runs is a good idea. If you have any Queries before the day feel free to ask.

But most of all smile and enjoy.

Well done, I did my first ever dressage test nearly two years ago - and I had owned my horse for over 8 years then! It was our first go, and we came 4th in the walk and trot - which meant that I could then retire from dressage, as I'd won a rosette, there was nothing else to prove!!!!!!!!!!

Well done - good on you for entering.

You have nothing to be nervous about! What is the worst that could happen!?

Just make sure that you leave yourself plenty of time so that you don't get into a panic.

Have you rideen your horse at the showground before? If not, are you able to take him for a practice before the event?

Please let us know how you get on.

Good luck.

Hi Trish,
i am 35yrs old, my arab is 14yrs, we are also doing our very first walk & trot dressage test at patchetts eq in november.
yes i am very nervous, i am pratising at home but my mother in law is going to read the test for me, sounds pathetic i know but harry can be really sharp so multi-tasking at staying on and remembering the test was giving me nightmares !!
good luck with yours, have fun
Kirsti

Well done for entering! After many years of jumping I did my first dressage test a few years ago. It went ok, but I practised it so many times my horse knew it so well he kept getting over exited at certain points. Since then I alsways practise bits and then run through the full test only twice (on horse back and a million times on foot!)
