I've found, vetted and bought our new horse!!! :) :) :)

She arrives on Saturday! so excited :)

I will post some pics when I get some.

now its all go on getting everything sorted in time - eek!

Wow congratulations, it's been a long time coming!

Can we have some details, in the absence of photos, please? :biggrin3:

thank you - yes of course. I really didn't think I would ever find one!! anyway, She is a 13 yr old piebald irish cob called Claudia, though we now know she was also known as Queenie prior to her last owner. She is a total sweetheart to handle and ride and will hopefully give us lots of confidence to do some local shows and maybe a fun ride or two. Currently she is clipped to within an inch of her life, so I'm battling with the idea of a light turnout rug while her coat grows back?? I am also toying with the idea of letting her become traditional looking, though my daughter prefers her clipped out :/. she will be living out 24/7 during the summer months on restricted grazing as she is a bit porky atm :)

all advice welcome on rugs - I don't want her to catch a chill nor get sunburnt (U can actually see her pink skin!) and whether traditional looks is the way to go.....? :)

A UV fly rug will be a must. As you said, sunburn can be a problem. I also have to use a fly mask with nose cover (mine is a Cashel) to stop my horses with blazes getting sunburnt noses. White legs can burn too, so I'm applying suncream to those on sunny days.

RE rugs for cobs and chunky types, I have found Shires rugs to be good and Horseware do their XL range for cobs. Many people like Premier Equine, although I've never got on with them myself.

The best thing I ever bought was a hi viz quarter sheet from V-bandz in a mesh material. I hack a lot and it's very visible and easy to put on/take off.

I agree with Faracat about preventing sunburn, but just wanted to add - same as humans, do a patch test first. We've got one who is allergic to suncream!

Thanks guys - i will look into the UV fly rugs then - will that keep her dry or should i invest in a turnout rug too for those wet/chilly days?

i will also test suncream - thanks smja
