My daughter collects "Black Beauty" books in all the very many editions which have appeared over the years, she has over 150 different versions, illustrated by many famous artists, Lionel Edwards, and many others. The American versions left out chapters, as they were considered too 'weepy' at the time the book reached the USA. There is a very active society of people who collect the child's classic, it has an enduring appeal to all animal lovers, and in particular, those interested in the welfare of the horse, which was the original intention when it was written. It has been translated into many different languages, a beautifully written classic, highly recommended!
