Thank you for all the responses on my original thread but
I've had an email from ebay saying they have removed my advert!!!!! Because I said that I reserve the right to remove it because it is advertised for sale elesewhere!!!!!!

Gutted

Loads of adverts have that written on them though?

I've had that before on ebay. My dad was trying to sell our car but they kept on removing it for pathetic things- so frustating as just about every other ad had the same stuff in!

But loads of adverts have that in?!

How annoying! Are you going to re-list minus that statement?

Oh dear, how irritating. I suppose you can put it on again without that included.

(psst, please can you make your sig smaller, it's a bit long at the mo and making it hard to read threads that you post on - thanks

Just take out one of the pics and it will be short enough.

Sorry, it just makes threads hard to read when peoples' sigs are too long

I have to say I'm quite pleased to hear ebay have put this in place- totally the right thing for them to do IMO.

I can see why it might be annoying for you but otherwise people can just list anything with a very low starting price and then if it doesn't make the money they want they can just say they have sold it elsewhere?

Unless you have it on 'buy it now' in which case I don't see ebays problem.

I'm afraid to say I'm glad to hear ebay doing this, someone has reported it otherwise they would not know about it. I was going to bid on a trailer that was really low and in the last few mins the auction vanished. If it had no bids then that's finr but this had bids on it and therefore should either have a reserve or be sold to the highest bidder even if that is 99p.

It must be disheartening for a first listing though, don't worry try again.

You don't need to puy that on a listing anyway. You as the seller can withdraw your item from the auction at any time & cancel any placed bid....simple as that.

You can but you are not supposed to, the auction SHOULD be legally binding and once a bid has been placed you should take it. You wouldn't like it if a buyer retracted their bid in the last few mins and you lost money .

Im afraid I agree with Ebay doing this too. Id hate to go through the hasstle of bidding on something only for the seller to turn round and say they's sold it elsewhere so tough! If its at auction, it should not be advertised anywhere else IMO. I dont bid on ANY items which say they are.

You will get other people saying it in their auctions but its wrong. Dont copy them!

Thats ridiculous!!! Everyone does that! Maybe Ebay are tightening up...Try again!!

My friend was selling a Rolls Royce Silver shadow for his dad! He advertised it as a Rolls Royce Shadow and it was removed!!! Ebay said it wasnt a real thing so couldnt be sold!!!

I suppose the only way round it is to put a reserve on.

Ps I think you can remove it up to 24 hours beforehand. The other way to get round it is to get a friend to bid it up to the reserve price without putting a reserve on it. So if you want £800 your friend puts in max bid £799. If someone bids higher you get what you want. If not the sale falls through. Thats how it works. Ebay scams!!

I'm sorry to hear that Ebay have done this as I do also see a lot of ads with similar words.
However I do have to agree with what has been said by some other people in that it was the right thing to do.
It puts me off bidding too especially if you have similar items listed in your watch list and then lose out on another similar item because the one you went for then says sorry listing ended early etc no longer for sale etc.
I'm not in a position to bid and try and win both items unless I need multiple items of the same sort or they are not that expensive.
Sorry if that offends by me saying that but I feel that as Ebay is primarily an auction site it should be run as such I mean aside silent auctions you don't get an auctioneer saying sold to blah de blah because he felt the price was right. He/she will either say unsold ( didn't meet reserve) or else will sell to the highest bidder.
My own perception of Ebay is an auction room only online instead.
Good luck with the trailer though.
Relist it without the added phrase and it will sell believe me

With a real auction you also have the auctioner's knowledge, and they often won't sell an item, even without a reserve, if they know the price is not fair. I've seen it happen a few times, and they are well within their right.

My starting price was £800 and Buy it now for £900 so its not like I was starting it low!

I've had another look and loads of the other adverts say it.

I had exactly the same thing happen to me today with a trailer listing. Fair enough, but when I looked through the current listings there were at least 10-15 saying pretty much the same thing and they are still active

I also had a BIN price and no bids, so it hadn't even got near its reserve.
Apparently sometimes other people report listings to ebay if it is very similar to something they are selling (so theirs will sell)

Just out of interest what were you both selling? Mine is a Rice Europa. I have relisted it now without the "offending" phrase.

Mine is a Rice Beaufort and I don't need to relist it because I sold it this evening.

Not a good experience for my first attempt at selling though. Still its a 10p listing day tomorrow according to a notification I have been sent so maybe I'll have a go at listing some other things gathering dust.
